Weekender Thread 04-07 January 2019

Hi There!
I'd like to welcome anyone new to SR and new to this thread.

Weekends can be a tough time - especially holiday weekends -and that's what this thread is about - support.

We also share bits and pieces of our lives and the things that are important to us, or make us laugh..anything that makes the journey a little easier

If you've never jumped into a weekender thread before - no time like today...do it now!

new year, new horizons, new recovery milestones...whats up ahead for everyone this week?

“The future is beckoning and onward and onward we fly!”

Yes please, I'm in, thanks D. The promise of the future is so much better than the pain of the past.

It's super rainy here again through to Saturday, so baking tomorrow it is. I've got the next 4 days off which is not great really although I know this allows me the opportunity to do alot of things others don't have time to do like hiking, reading. baking, cleaning and probably lots of other productive things I should be doing. I prefer to work 5 days a week though. I've applied to the local farmers market for baking but they said they already have a full-time baker and they're worried there won't be enough variety so we shall see.
Saturday and Sunday are looking sunny, warm and perfect for hiking!

Thank you for a new thread, Dee!

Yes, onward to future horizons!

I woke up earlier today - time to finally straighten up my sleep pattern.

See you)

Willow00 01-03-2019 11:50 PM

I’m in :)
We’re still travelling for a few more days then heading home Tuesday.
I’ve eaten way too much on holidays, but I haven’t drank.
It’s good to start the new year sober, first time in 30 years or more!
Time to get back to a healthy eating plan next week....

Just wanted to Big Up all those on the thread that have just had, like me, their first sober Xmas and New Year!!! What an achievement and I could be more proud of us all! For those that still have that joy to come, keep at it and you will get there. I promise you you will not regret it xx

PhoenixJ 01-04-2019 01:30 AM

What's up fellow weekenders!?! :wavey:

zoeydog 01-04-2019 03:55 AM

Willow … eating … me … whoa! Scary. No food is safe. Scarfed down a piece of cake yesterday, and I never eat cake. This weekend I WILL get this under control, that's my commitment. :biglaugh:

Hope you all have a wonderful, sober weekend. I'll talk to you tonight!

STDragon 01-04-2019 04:14 AM

Good morning one and all. Happy Friday. This weekends plans include a trip to ArtistEmporium (Daughters favorite place) and the wood working shop next door. (This may sound odd, but I want to make a wooden kazoo). And then we have our bi-monthly strum on Sunday. Did I mention that daughter bought herself a new ukulele? It's a beute....

I'm on

biminiblue 01-04-2019 06:26 AM

Friday already? wow.

Let's all make it through this weekend without a drink or drugs. Deal?

I'm on Myfitnesspal and I stumbled on a sobriety challenge thread started in August...it's up to 70 pages, lots of good resources for books, podcasts, and YouTube videos. It has a completely different vibe than SR threads and of course more focus on food and exercise :)

P.S. MidnightBlue, I'm glad it went well with the friend.

I'm in!

Made it through all of the holidays and celebrations without even passing thoughts of drinking. It was in my face a couple of times, but didn't tempt me in the least. BUT - I did eat too many sweets and other treats, like a lot of us did. I don't "do" New Year resolutions concerning food, but I will be more mindful of what I'm stuffing in my face. I'm headed to Belize in a little over a week, and I'm hoping the local food is fresh and delicious. I'm going to eat whatever I want while I'm there. I'm staying right on the beach. I am past the age where I care much about how I look in a bathing suit. My saying is "all you need in order to have a bathing suit body is a bathing suit and a body." :)

I am not worried that I'll drink, even though I'll be alone and no one else would know. I'D KNOW. Not. Going. There. If for no other reason than a woman traveling alone is MUCH SAFER when not impaired. I know this from experience. A solo trip to St. Thomas several years ago when I was still drinking could have been a disaster. I took many stupid risks.

If you are just starting your sobriety journey (or starting over), YOU CAN DO IT.
