Yes, the holidays can be hard but...

Everyone knows being newly sober or trying to maintain sobriety around the holidays can be a challenge to say the least. Family gatherings, other people drinking and enjoying themselves, the general stress of the season, loneliness, all kinds of things can put the squeeze of temptation on us. One thing that has always worked for me was to remember that the best gift I can ever give to my family, friends and loved ones is the gift of my own sobriety. Yes, there will be people that don't understand or don't appreciate your sobriety and your choice NOT to drink, but there will be plenty more who will. Wishing all of you a joy and peace. And yes, you CAN do it.

Really well said. My family doesn’t ever bring it up, but I’m sure they value not having to worry about me over the holidays

Everything you said rings true for me. I'll be nine months today. Haven't had much trouble at all, but this holiday season has proven very difficult for me. Thought it would be easy but not so much. I wont drink but I guess there will always be a part of me that will never let it go. Happy holidays.

Blown,

It is a paradigm shift. A lifestyle change. Now I see the stress of the holidays and part of the fun and booze made it less fun.

Putting together bicycles drunk, trying to stay awake for midnight mass, whisky in my coffee Xmas morning leading to passed out by noon.

I was blind but now I see.

I have felt progressively better each Xmas. This is my 4th Xmas sober. The 1st one was rough.

Almost time to hit the gym for some more me time.

Thanks.
