The wee small hours..
The wee small hours..
2.30 am here in the UK and I'm wide awake treating a Diabetic Hypo (low blood sugar)
Why? Because like you (probably), I figured that if my Liver was OK, so was I......NOPE! I landed with Type 1 Diabetes and the accompanying injections 3-6 times a day, because I didn't stop drinking soon enough.
You know the ironic thing? I was only ever a weekend drinker.
I am not complaining - but you know something else ? I had already quit drinking a month before becoming ill - luckily I survived to tell the tale.
So please, think forward - if it can happen to me as a 'weekend warrior', it can happen to you too!
I am happy with my life regardless - developing Diabetes, might just have saved me from a much worse fate.
Can I take this opportunity, to wish you all a very Happy Christmas
Z Xx

Sorry Zanna to hear you have developed type 1 diabetes. I have type 2 and that is bad enough. Being awake at 230 am is horrendous. Everything plays on your mind. I hope you can learn to make the adjustments to your diet. It's not easy. I hope you feel better soon. All I can suggest are YouTube meditation for sleep. Thanks for the warning. Often these things don't show up till we have fully given up hugs and love to you. Hope you sleep soon.

Off back to sleep now Xx
No one knows exactly what causes type 1 diabetes, or a lot of other things for that matter. Having said that, we know for sure that drinking an excess amount of alcohol can cause all kinds of bad things to happen to our bodies.
The Pancreas has two functions - delivering Insulin and also Digestion.
In my case, alcohol caused what is called 'Calcification' - a bit like when you leave something in water for a long time and a hard crust forms. (Pancreatitis) In my case, I had a few episodes of 'acute pancreatitis' which I stupidly ignored and developed chronic pancreatitis Not everyone with 'chronic' will develop Diabetes - it all depends on which part of the pancreas is damaged. ...It's irreversible, so please don't ignore the warnings - up left quadrant pain) Hope this helps
It blocked my ability to produce and deliver Insulin, so now I need to inject it instead.
It's a pain in the proverbial, but thankfully manageable
PS Eating sweets is more likely to develop Type 2 (if anything) x
At least a few gulps of Orange Juice and we're 'normal' again.
Sorry to hear you're going through it - perhaps we could be SR Diabuddies?
Happy Christmas X
Thanks everyone for your kind words. I'm absolutely fine though - it's coming up to two years ago now, so I am more than used to it all. I really just wanted to let you all know what CAN happen - please don't be it's next victim.
Have a fantastic Christmas and all the very best, for 2019.
Hugs
