Hello everyone, first time poster here.

A little background: I've been a pretty heavy drinker for about 11-12 years now, and finally made the decision to get sober after countless hangovers. I'm on day 2 and feeling good (tired, but good).

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for recovery podcasts or books that helped them out? The only podcast I've really listened to so far is Recovery Elevator, which is pretty good but I'd love to hear what everyone else is listening to (or reading).

Thanks in advance.

Hi Fitz, welcome to SR!
I love recovery stories, education, self help books! I’m going to check out that podcast you mentioned. Here are some of my favorite books: Russell Brandt -Recovery: Freedom from our addictions, Drinking-A Love Story, Bottled- a moms guide to early recovery, Moments of Clarity, Living the high life without the champagne, Beautiful Boy, Clean -Overcoming Addiction.... , The Sober Revolution -calling time on wine oclock, Blackout, A Hapoier Hour, Allan Carr- easy way to control alcohol.

I’ve also read books on recovery and spirituality: One Breath at a time -Buddhism and twelve steps.

I like this blog: Unpickled. There are several podcasts under the Menu resources section. I havent been there in a while because I’ve been busy. I used to love her Bubble hour podcast.

I spend more time here at SR these days. I love the sense of community and support here over a common purpose. There is no judgment here. Only understanding, empathy, good listening and advice and resources

I’m finishing up Drunk Mom now. It is so good and a quick read.

There is a lot to learn out there!

This is not a podcast but a documentary. This is the one that got me seriously interested in permanent sobriety. Scared me to death.

This Naked Mind - the latest one on Dec 1, 2018 is about triggers. Pretty funny since I posted about triggers yesterday...I haven't listened to it yet.

This Naked Mind Podcast

Oh, I listened to it - good! These are short podcasts, and there are a lot of them.

Glad you are here! The book Living Sober is a great and simple read about the first year of sobriety. Paperback avail on Amazon.

Rational Recovery The New Cure for Substance Addiction by Jack Trimpey is the only book I've read on recovery and it really resonated with me.

Check out some great threads on those ideas here on SR in the Secular Recovery forum and associated sub forums.

Congratulations on your decision !

Wow, thanks for the replies and welcomes. These should keep me busy for a while.

Has anyone seen the documentary "The Anonymous People?" That one was pretty eye-opening to me.

Welcome aboard Fitzedwards

My mind doesn't run to podcasts, so I'm no help there,

You could do a lot worse than read and post regularly here

Hi Fitzedwards.

I tried a bunch of podcasts in the beginning; the ones that stuck are the Recovered podcast and Since Right Now. Recovered bills itself as the unofficial 12-step podcast, and though I'm not in the program, Recovered is full of insight and I get a lot out of it. SRN features three hosts that all got sober by different methods. They also cover a lot of ground on mental health issues (anxiety/depression/anger) and present sobriety with a dose of irreverence and humor.

I've not tried This Naked Mind podcast, but the book was key for me in getting sober.
