Thanksgiving Weekender Thread 20- 26 November 2018
Thank you Willow. It’s an especially meaningful visit because one year ago this week we had to come out here and find him. We’d lost contact as he bottomed out in his own addiction. Lost his wallet and id, car, phone, everything. Such wretched guilty emotions I felt as we searched this huge city. But my own personal experiences, I think, helped me to guide him in a way I don’t think I’d have been able to otherwise. So with outpatient and then inpatient treatment and loads of family support I’m happy to say that this Thanksgiving is a world of difference in that he’s got a great job and seems fine. I’m cautiously optimistic and very very grateful. He’s no time off work so we brought Thanksgiving to him. Tomorrow evening will be a family Thanksgiving feast in the truest sense. .
And a happy thanksgiving to everyone south of the 49th!
Thanks for sharing Mark, hope you have a terrific time with your son.
Caramel, looks like you nailed that car!
Rul23, you are doing the right thing by avoiding trigger situations, although it might feel a bit awkward now.
Willow, have you tried exercise in the late afternoon or evening to see if that helps you sleep?

Hi Captain thanks for the suggestion. I have gone to yoga classes and I feel relaxed afterwards but still have trouble sleeping. Maybe I need something more intense to knock me out I think also that maybe my body clock has reset itself from so many years staying up late drinking. I could easily sleep in late each morning but I have to get up. My best sleep starts around 4 or 5am.... I have been going to bed by 9 or 10 for months and it still hasn’t shifted. Maybe with time it will change...

Morning, or rather day, weekenders.
Marc - Congrats on 8 months!
Willow - I have hard times with shifting to more sensible sleeping pattern too. I think, above all, it has to do with lots of worries and uncertainty. I am still not excited to face the day. But I am working on it.
Have a good day, everyone.

Good morning everyone.
Sleep pattern is a challenge here too. I generally cat nap all night, rarely sleeping two hours straight through but then fall back asleep pretty quickly. It just seems normal now but I’d like to sleep straight through the night at some point.
Quite happy I am to be up before dawn to make a proper breakfast for my son. Cooking in a new kitchen I’m likely making a bit too much noise, but the food will be delicious!
Wishing everyone the best day.

Hi gettingsmarter! You're doing the great secret agent Maxwell Smart one better. As a kid I was in love with his beautiful sidekick, Agent 99.
And I see today is Thanksgiving, woohoo! I'll be putting some gratitude in my attitude, now that's the sober spirit.

Good Morning All and Happy Thanksgiving to all the US contingent!
Great news on my side of the pond in that I have just been informed I have passed all the required vetting checks and they are happy to accept me with my DUI conviction for this new contract. So I have an official and confirmed start date of 3rd December! I am so nervous and excited at the same time, been a 7 months just working on myself and my recovery and this is my first real test re-joining the real world out there! Such a relief it's all official. I am also going to be part of the Leadership Team too which is the first time I will get a role title that matches the seniority of the work I usually do and will make getting more senior roles easier in the future.
Hope everyone is having a positive day, be strong and be kind xx

That's fantastic , ML!
I'm so pleased that you got the job you truly wanted!
I'm glad that your title will be commensurate with your responsibilities.
And you won't have to wait long to start!
Congratulations!

Happy Turkey Day, Troopz!
Below is Sober Sunrise today out here in The Wild West. We're watching The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade outta freezing New York while swilling my uber-strong Coffee. Clear-headed Mornings like today sho beat the grind of The Bad Old Days while in a wicked Brain Fog. Lots to be thankful for 'round here, and we keep it Serene!
I'm gonna Spatchcock our Turkey: score it. Flatten it. Roast it in the Oven in ~1/2 the cooking time while leaving room for other Fixins.
Superb recon on that Concept Car, Caramel. I quickly found this additional background on it.

A one-of-a-kind Concept Car in his Collection was created by Oldsmobile; the only one like it in the World. It rotates on a massive Turntable. As with all his Collection, you can get up close to the Vehicles w/o Ropes or Barriers. Neato stuff!

Way to nail it, ML!
