Why do I keep screwing up?
Why do I keep screwing up?
My life with drinking is like a rollercoaster. I was so banged up this morning I had to call out of work , I do in fact have a cold in my defense . I went 23 days recently without a drink or drugs and I just choked one evening and I was doing so well . My wife hates when I drink , my family hates me drunk but hates me sober lol ( half joke ) but I’m really starting to get worried about my body . I have been a drinker for 13 years now ... I mainly drink to manage my panic attack’s and boredom , I don’t even know if I have a question but I just needed to vent . Thanks everyone
You keep screwing up because you keep drinking as an option. That isn't said to be snarky, but it is the truth. Until alcohol is no longer an option, chances are you will keep going back to it.
What kind of support do you have? What is your plan? Are you using AA, AVRT, therapy, or some other kind of face to face support? We all need support, even after we break the cycle of drinking. Alcoholism never goes away, but it can go into remission if you never, ever take another drink.
Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back on the sobriety horse. Start working on a plan so this doesn't happen again. Good luck to you and we are always here if you need support or just to vent.

AVRT is also called Rational Recovery. You can google it. It is a secular recovery method. We have Secular forums here, too, that you can check out and find out more about it.
I think that when you stop drinking, you will be able to begin finding healthy ways to deal with your anxiety. And, you may find that the alcohol is making your anxiety worse and it will improve when you stop drinking.
I tried to use the anxiety and stress as an excuse to drink. And I had tons of it. Can't argue with the facts that least presents.
Be strong x
So do I, main reason is stopped indulging. I would wake up with massive headaches and the anxiety was no longer worth it.
My anxiety faded as my sober time grew. I had thought drinking eased my anxiety, turns out I had it backwards!
I tried many, many times to quit. Only to relapse each time. I had to accept that it was no longer an option for me.

Hi FlyersFan, glad you're back. I also deal with anxiety, and it has definitely lessened since being sober. The first few days you may feel more anxious, but I promise it will pass. I find walking/hiking helpful, something about being outdoors even for a quick walk can clear my mind. Also, I have found mindfulness to be a very helpful tool. A lot of my anxiety was worrying about the future, or what had happened in the past. Focusing on the here and now and what I can control has been very helpful.
You can do this, so glad you're here!!

Flyersfan, good going! Hope your anxiety continues to abate. I also had lots of anxiety and it was one of the main reasons that I decided to quit. I still have some anxiety, but I am now able to logically work myself through it. It is amazing how reasonable/doable everything becomes when you are sober. Stay the course. As time goes on there will be ebbs and flows, but overall everything will get better. Peace to you.
