Glad to hear you are checking out alternatives, I would think the amount of alcohol in an inhaler would be pretty minimal. Are you suggesting that you started drinking again ( you mentioned relapse ) or are you considering the inhaler usage itself to be a relapse of sorts?

Not drinking no.
Just don’t know what the limitations are for unleashing the beast.
Was just checking to see if there were any unfortunate people out there.
The pharmacist said that the amount was very small. But check with my doc for alternatives because they didn’t know.( I checked at 2 pharmacies and they said the same)
I read that it was 9 mg per puff on the inhaler. Not sure how much that is in ml ( think it’s 0.09ml)

It just tastes a bit like brandy or sweet whiskey.
I gave my partner a puff on it and she said the same.

I don’t consider it to be a relapse, it’s just worrying.
P.s i don’t think it’s a matter what ‘I’ think ,it’s how my body and brain process it.

I’ll have to carry on taking it till I see the doc I suppose.

It's certainly an important reminder to read the labels carefully for any prescription med. A quick search of clenil modulate does show right in the basic warnings/precautions that you should not take it if

" you must avoid alcohol for any reason."

Yes you’re right Scott.
I was in dire straits at the time and had to see an out of hours doc.
She put me on codine and I’ve been a bit out of sorts until now.
I did tell her I had trouble with addiction etc at the time and she seemed to be fine with it.
Do I risk another asthma attack and end up in A&E again?

I do have a friend who is a GP . I will call him also to see his advise

I would not worry about this myself, although I am in no position to give advice. I mean, I have heard there are trace amounts of alcohol in things like ketchup, and I have no intention of giving them up. So an inhaler? Certainly not.

Thanks foolish Italian,
I’ve been super analy vigilant for 20 months now so even the slightest thing to do with booze now automatically goes against the grain.
My way of stamping on the beasts head I suppose!

These things are sent to test us

20 months is amazing!

Whatever you are doing is clearly working, but risking a serious medical condition for what is trace amounts is in my opinion, not worth it. If there are alternatives, excellent, if not, you are not drinking, you are taking what is basically a necessary medicine. Do not allow this to take anything away from all you have achieved.

I'm not suggesting that you should not take it, just a general reminder about labels and that it's a good thing to check. I hope that you are feeling better soon and that they can find a suitable replacment for you that helps with your asthma.

If your doctor can offer an alternative that works for you, then that could be a good idea. If not, I would not call it a relapse, and clearly you need the medication for asthma.

Sorry Scott, I wasn’t implying you was.
It’s just my way of wording things that makes me get misunderstood at times.
I appreciate your feedback and have always admired and respected your views and opinions on SR.

Thanks again

Nothing to be sorry for, we are an international community for certain. I can't even count the number of times I've said something with a particular intent that ws interpreted differently by others ;-)

I've never used that med/brand - I use Ventolin - but I understand your uneasiness and I'd be looking for alternatives too Snowy

It’s a preventer inhaler, 2 puffs in the morning and 2 puffs at night. I think it’s some sort of anti inflammatory. The ethanol is used for the transport/delivery.

I use the ventolin( this is a reliever) if I start to wheeze during the day for a quick booster.
Thanks for the concern Dee.

My friend seems to think there’s an alternative powder form that’s used in a nebuliser.
I’ll find out

Found out the amount is too low to have a pharmacological effect.
Inhaler has 9mg per puff
100g of ripe banana has more ethanol in it at 40mg
One unit of alcohol has 10,000mg

I can stop worrying now

Don't forget that there is also a HABIT aspect of alcoholism. Were you in the habit of drinking alcoholic liquid or overusing your inhaler to get a hit?

I would get an alternative inhaler, but also at the same time not let it worry me. As the most important thing is that you were not drinking.

Not overusing the inhaler no.
Just brushed my teeth straight after using it to get any of the medicine and alcohol out of my mouth.

If you check there is more ethanol in a ripe banana than an inhaler puff. About 10 times more. In a unit alcohol there is 10,000 times the amount of alcohol than an inhaler.

I wouldn't worry too much about an inhaler, but if you find yourself going into bathrooms or closets to sneak puffs during the day, you're probably heading to a dark place.
