hypoglycemia
Hi,
im on day 32...and im having some struggles. Fairly early on (about day 3). I felt like my body was giving up. I was extremely light headed, tingly, and i thought i was struggling to keep concious, also vomiting... about 10 days later the same thing happed (not quiet as bad) and left me fairly bed ridden for a couple of days. The second time i had a sweet orange juice and felt like that helped. At first i thought it was anxiety but i dont think it is anymore.
about two weeks ago a nurse took my blood sugars (non fasting and i had just had breakfast) and it was 4.8. The nurse said this was low but my doctor said this is normal and 3 would be low and dismissed it as an issue.
On friday i had a large very sweet custart cake and my heart went crazy and vomiting for about an hr and i havent felt great the next two days.
Does any of this sound like hypoglycemia? For those who suffer and or how do i go about finding out or stopping these "attacks".
thanks all advice/opinions are so welcome. I hate feeling like this! Sorry for the overshare in some parts.

Hi Alice. Congrats on day 32! That's awesome, for sure.
Basically, no one can give you medical advice here. Particularly something like hypoglycemia, you are best to discuss your concerns with your doctor so you can be tested accordingly.
Things like passing out, fainting, etc. are so serious, you know it's best not to Google diagnose on those things. Be honest with your doctor that you are withdrawing from alcohol (if you haven't already), and ask what some good steps might be to monitor your symptoms and report back to your doc or health nurse.

Thanks calmerwater, i was asking more about peoples own situation, if there similarities with others. I was thinking it was my sugar and body adjusting to changes. Possibly this is normal (i dont know).
I felt like i was passing out not that i did. I agree it does feel serious and i have discussed it with my doctor and she dismissed it along with the alcohol issue (as i wrote above) thats why i turned here to ask people who may have it and could shed some light...im trying to understand whats going on and head back to my doctor with what i can ask to be tested or looked at. I am definitely heading back to my doctor!
sorry if i have asked the wrong line of questioning. I can delete the thread if its inappropriate.

Hey Dee74,
No i didnt take that as a diagnosis...im just trying to understand...and thought a broader post with people who suffer from it could provide some info...
i will 100% head back to my doctor...its a process of elimination. If i was really really concerned i would head straight to the hospital...Thanks Dee74.

I have hypoglycemia but do not have the symptoms you describe like vomiting. Never had that happen but I will feel shaky and sweaty. I feel best when I limit my use of sugar and flour and eat a healthy diet but that is not always easy either. I wish you all the best and hope you feel better soon.

Hi i share my expierience . I had hypocliceamia often and was scared it was diabetes . I had it before alcohol use. I did all tests no diabetes . In my case its related to stress hormones. If you look up reactive hypoclikemia you see how hormones work for brain and all is interconnected putting bodybinto fight flight lowering sugar. My response eat regularly smaller meals i adopted . I also have a healthy snack at me . As i got it at work once at important meeting and had to leave get a mars baton ha ha so i always make sure. Usually coffee and no food would give it to me . From my expierience but to reassure best do all tests . And seek advice . Big hugs well done on sobriety x D
There are some good journal articles out there about alcoholism and hypoglycemia. For me, I think this phenomenon is real, especially early in recovery. I make a point to eat something every two hours - usually fruits, veggies, nuts, lean protein. I find it helps stabilize my mood and stave off alcohol cravings. That is my personal experience.

I am hypoglycemic and I am not going to tell you that is isn't, but its not what I experience. I get very shaky and sweat and need food immediately when its gets low.

I have had blood sugar plunge since I was a kid. I shake, sweat, get weak, almost or actually pass out. I have studied some about blood sugar problems, and anxiety problems, as key factors in if a person becomes an alcoholic. There are studies that claim blood sugar imbalances cause excessive drinking. I seek to understand why I am like this, as if a magic Diet, supplement, fixing a vitamin deficiency will fix my alcoholism. Why did I end up this way? What is wrong with me? I just can’t drink that’s the only magic solution I’ve found.

Hmm i dont sweat at all.... maybe it was more withdrawal (hence so full on). I got a heart monitor put on today (i wear it for 24hrs)...just to rule out any complications. Two of my siblings suffer from iron deficiency, so i will get tested. I guess when your so out of tune with your body you dont know what is normal and whats not.
