Another motivation to remain alcohol-free

My dear brother needs a kidney. Someone who is actively abusing alcohol cannot donate. So this is another motivation for me to remain sober. It's only day 5, but I feel stronger every day.

For several months, m brother has been having high creatinine levels indicating kidney failure, though his doctors cannot find a specific reason. I told him a few months ago that if he needs a kidney, he can have one of mine, assuming we are a match.

Well, now it looks like he needs one. His creatinine is high and he was put back in the hospital. Yesterday, he had surgery to install a port for home dialysis. But the nephrologist told him and my sister-in-law that he should get qualified for transplant as soon as he is stable on dialysis.

My recent medical scare (blood in urine) turned out to be a kidney stone an does not disqualify me as a potential donor which is a huge relief.

I'm glad Minerva - all the best to your brother - and to you :)

That's definitely motivation for you, Minerva. I hope that your brother will be able to get a transplant.
