Day 3 again.

I've been struggling with alcohol abuse for the past 2 years now. I just want to be free if this addiction and get back to being healthy mentally and physically again. I haven't been able to get past 3 or 4 days of sobriety in a few months now but I know this rollercoaster ride needs to stop....

Thank you in advance for any encouraging comments.

Hi Dlink!

Welcome aboard! You’re at a great place here.

Your other Great place is in your mind, that you want to stop drinking. So you will need a plan. By that, I mean what would you do differently so that you will not keep repeating this wash, rinse, repeat cycle?

Welcome Dlink. SR is a welcoming and supportive community. There are many good threads in the newcomer's forums. I joined Class of March '16 and rarely miss a day checking in to share, learn and support.

You can stop drinking and live a better life. Do you have a plan for getting sober?

Hello.
Same here while drinking. I could never make it past the fourth day, either. Felt better, anxiety and remorse gone, and hey! I can drink again.

I went through that cycle for many years. But the binges got longer. In short order, I was drinking most every day. Never had a chance to make it to the fourth day anymore. My self control was gone. It's progressive.

I needed help to quit at the end, so I attended an AA meeting and came here.
It took me awhile to stop completely, but the seed had been planted.
Here were people with the same problem as me successfully not drinking.
It went back to four days. Then a week. Then a month, and on.
That was nine and half years ago. I haven't had a drink since.

So, it was a process. Stopping didn't happen over night. Just like my dependence on alcohol didn't.
I know how you feel. I've been there. I was a bad drunk at the end. Now I'm not. But it took help.
If you really want to quit, go to any length to.
Best to you.

Hi

Day 3 for me too. In a week we will be in double digits, day 10 and it will be brighter. November 4th will be 2 weeks and that will be when the brain starts to heal. I wish I only had 2 years of this, I’ve had 23 years of it, it gets worse each year. But each day not drinking we get away from it.
