6 months - a life reclaimed

Chopping wood, carrying water.

Doing the work. Some days are cloudy, lethargic and slow. Others are shimmering with vital possibilities.

Sobriety is everything. I was as far gone as anyone here. But my life is mine again. Maybe for the first time. It gets better. It takes work. But it's worth it on every level.

I love the imagery that comes with "chopping wood, carrying water." It also seems like a great mantra for when you feel like time is dragging. Because it reminds you that even when being sober seems to make time slow down, you are building toward something.

Congratulations on six months, less.

Congratulations less, six months is amazing. I'm coming up to six months myself, that wood and water is hard work sometimes but it's definitely worth it.

Have a brilliant day

Less,

Congrats.

Pushing yourself physically is totally my go to move.

I have been working toward Olympic style weight lifting in order to develop total body conditioning. It really works. I feel like a different person the next day.

Clean and press is all I can do right now. Light weight. Max right now is only 85 pounds for 7 to 11 reps (depending on how much I cheer with my legs).

I am avoiding heavy weight for a max, e.g. 135 for 1. I am no spring chicken.

It is exhausting and challenges my balance for sure.

My stamina is still sketchy, but compared to me years ago...i am 10x better.

Thanks.

I've often tried to identify exactly what is different for me finally. And the truth is I can't say for certain that it's just one thing. I think most generally I can say that I just grew so sick and tired of the same horrid, self destructive cycle. The level of being fed up with that life became just too much for me to deal with anymore.

Maybe it's age, I'm 41. Maybe it's the fact that I just had my second child. But then again those things don't necessarily stop other people, nor did having my son or a life of high responsibility and stress cause me to stop previously. I think that I had in place a number of things which needed me to be at my best. I think I have the tools via meditation, fitness and this website that I was able to fully put into place to carry my sobriety forward. I also just think that I finally after all these years grew up. I can't say for certain why I grew up, but I feel like an adult for the first time in my life. And it turns out it's a pretty terrific feeling.
