Good evening weekenders,

Forgive me for hopping right in without reading here too much first, but wanted to share my weekend.

It was a very busy weekend for me yesterday I worked my butt off along with my teenage daughter straightening out my house and cooking for about 25 guests. We had sloppy Joe’s and a baked potato bar.

I told all of my guests to bring their own booze. Most of them do not know that I no longer drink alcohol .

It was weird but I was not nervous about it… About them drinking in my house.... however I did anticipate may be wanting some and what would I do with that thought when it came to me .

My new go to drink is non-alcoholic ginger beer, with real chopped ginger and squeeze lemon juice and lime rinds in the drink.

The high temperature was only in the mid 60s Fahrenheit and the sun was shining it was a perfect day to have the oven on.

Today I was rather slow and lazy and it felt great!

Morning everyone, i'm impressed at how you got through that evening Free2bme. Ginger beer is good stuff, I keep meaning to make some but never seem to get round to it.

It sounds like you have a fascinating job there Canadian Koala.

It is a fine morning here, typical now the weekend is over. I am going to walk to work this morning.

Canadian Koala,
Dont say you work backstage for Godsmack because you will give Purps a quadruple heart attack with cheek skin tear :

Thanks VMan. A 600 kms/ 370 miles real world range is impressive if true. By coincidence, at the science show I sat through a lecture where there was a mention of some 350 KW chargers that would give 300miles/500kms of range in 12 minutes. (see boring pic below)

I do like that design, retrofuturist. It would be interesting to see one in the flesh.

I hope everyone's having a good start to the new week!

It's cold and rainy outside, I'm desperately trying to be productive but my brain is in hibernation mode. Maybe it's time to give caffeine another go...

I'm passionate about sustainability and therefore also like the concept of electrical cars but I got so used to "listen" for cars as much as I watch out for them that I find it a bit scary when they creep down the roads so silently. And all of a sudden they are right next to me!

Haha Venus, I never thought about it but now you've said it, I had to look it up!

This is what I found:

To understand why water doesn't bother the batteries or the motor in an electric car, first consider the fact that every car you've ever driven has had an electrical system. It operated at much lower voltages, used a different kind of battery and served a different purpose from the system in a hybrid car, but the principle is the same. All cars have batteries and electric systems, yet they don't short out or shock anyone in the rain. Even if you get water on the battery terminals, it generally just causes corrosion, not an immediate catastrophic effect. In fact, in several models, notably certain Chrysler vehicles, the 12-volt battery is mounted behind the front tire, near the bottom of the car, where it is frequently exposed to water and other road debris.

[...]

In the event that water does actually get inside the shell, there's still not much to worry about. The nickel-metal hydride batteries used in current hybrids and electric cars are maintenance-free sealed cells, so nothing gets in or out. The chemicals inside are designed to form a gel, so they won't spill even if the batteries are ruptured in a crash. Under normal operating conditions, it's pretty much impossible for water to come into contact with the batteries themselves. The high-voltage lines that carry the current are similarly protected and insulated.

The bottom line -- don't worry about dodging puddles in your Prius.
