Vman, you may be retiring but you'll never be shy!

I actually consider myself semi-retired at this point, or maybe just really lazy. But I keep my overhead low so it's all good.

Hi everyone. I'm on day 2. Making it this far is a big deal for me. I will be at work most of the day and caring for my mom until early evening so my battle will not start until later today.

Have a great day everyone!

Today is Yom Kippur....the holiest day of the year for Jewish people.
We reflect on the year that has been, and pray to God for forgiveness for our sins. We fast and pray, and then we hand it over and let it go....it is solemn and beautiful.

I don't fast or go to synagogue, but I honor my mum on this day by not listening to music or watching tv, and I don't eat anything other than what I need for fuel. And I think of her and my dad and my brother and love them, and I say the holy prayer for the dead.

Wow, Suze.

I have to run to dentist now. I'll get back to you later about that.

Welcome to Weekenders Hillhiker! Congratulations on Day 2, every day is a big deal to begin with. Best wishes to your mom.

Happy Yom Kippur Venuscat and anyone else to whom it applies.

Sometimes I love my job, on Friday, during company time, I am going to the New Scientist Live show in east London's ExCel arena where I have tickets for the Engineering Zone. Woot woot!

On the downside I had a bit of an accident with some hair dye last night and have been the subject of mockery by by co-workers.

I hope the storm passes without causing damage Manta.

I never made to the Orkney's or Shetland but I got close last month

I don't like mockery.....
Easy to laugh at someone else....not so much fun if it happens to you.

Tell them it is the new rage Sao, and they need to get with it.

During one of several Scotland Trips, we rented a small self-drive RV Camper. In off-peak May, you could pull up to any deserted Campground, and park way over on a secluded spot with the Dinette Window facing the Sea. Shop and eat local. I bought 2 massive Crabs right off the Boat Dock-side. A memorable Dinner! Hike around. Pick up stuff while Beachcombing. As we did up in Orkney from a Bay at Low Tide.

These Scallop Shells from the Bay almost appear glazed on the interior side. Throw 'em in the Dishwasher, and use them for serving Appetizers. One of our prized possessions!

A very fascinating visit was to Scara Brae. Click on most any Pic to read about this Neolithic Settlement...

I always think of scallops as the absolute personification of French cuisine. They are seafood, they are delicious and they come with their own inbuilt ashtray.

The ashtray bit is more and more rare nowadays but yes tasty under the grill...

I had one of my favorite breakfast cereals for supper - weetabix invented by Bennison Osborne, an Australian.

Goodnight weekenders.

You know me and the wildlife.

Yesterday on my walk ten minutes from my front door - this is what I saw ten feet from me:

(not my image, but this is exactly his/her pose and expression before s/he disappeared into the brush. The image is from PAWS, a local wildlife rescue.)

Big.

Kinda don't want to walk today...

...not huge, but about 30ish pounds. Three times the size of my 10 pound housecat. It's a Bobcat...and sure it's been here all along - I just didn't know it.

I live in the city.

If I'm ever feeling down, defeated, that's it. I just think of a line from the movie Rocky V.

"I didn't hear no bell".
