Finally went to AA
Finally went to AA
I've known I had a problem for 10 years now, and tried to quit on my own countless times.
I finally decided I can't do it on my own and started going to AA daily. I've been terrified of doing this for years.
Now I'm kicking myself for not doing this years ago. What a different world to not be doing this alone.
So finally hitting a week (tomorrow) sober, but there were a couple days of forced tapering for safety before that week started.
Just happy to be on this path even if I can't sleep and feel cranky half the time right now. I dont feel constantly terrified and white knuckle holding on for dear life.
I have a group of people who will love me until I love myself, and I can see first hand that decades of sobriety really is possible, even for me.
Just wanted to share.

AA was suggested when I first came here looking for help. Unfortunately my ego and fear(s) wouldn't allow me to go,so when the courts 'thought' I should go, I felt like a fool for waiting so long. It was a very welcoming enviroment filled with people who knew my struggle and had the advice/tools to get me past it. Keep going! I think the saying is; "keep coming back, it works if you work it."
That is excellent news, and I'm glad you like the meetings.
Yes, I too had to give up trying to go it alone. It was so wonderful to meet a group of people all together for the same reason. Very powerful.
I hope you keep going it only gets better.
Best to you

So happy you made this decision! I felt exactly the same way when I went to my first meeting. So much fear, shame, hiding... all went out the window within the first fifteen minutes. I couldn’t believe this was all happening right under my nose (stone’s throw from my apartment) and it was exactly what I needed. I too had been living in constant fear and felt like my life had become a perpetual game of salvaging the ruins and putting on a good face for everyone else. AA knew what this was like and opened their arms to me. Welcome
Support to you from another person who
has been living the AA way of life incorporating
their program of recovery continuously in
my everyday life for the past 28yrs.
I'm just one amongst many who have not found
it necessary to pick up a drink of poison again once
I put it down and picked up a program of recovery,
an amazing gift, allowing me to achieve health,
happiness and honesty for many one days at a
time moving forward.
It is so comforting to know that you, we, us,
never have to go thru anything in life alone
or by ourselves again.
What a blessing, gift and way of life.
