Yesterday was my birthday...
I went out with a new friend and an old friend to get sushi for my BD, and though one of them drank a beer, I really had no desire to drink. It was nice, because I'd always associated sushi bars as places to drink. The green tea was nice, and it was pleasantly memorable.
Last year, I stayed home and drank myself into a stupor, waking up with vomit on my shirt and heaving at 4am.
I continue on this wonderful journey, meeting healthy athletic people, and feeling in the best shape of my life at age 41; I feel great. I have days a month where it's tough, but it's not too tricky to manage situations.
This is the longest sobriety streak of my life, surpassing 6 months, so I'm focusing on life patterns that will make me healthier, more productive, and a better person overall.
Thanks for everyone's help! I come on here and read when things get tricky, and it refreshes my perspective.

Happy birthday! The sushi sounds great! I too had trouble with sushi in early sobriety, I had always had white wine with it and it seemed impossible not to. But now I have sushi regularly and enjoy it just fine with sparkling water.
What a difference a year makes, eh? So glad to hear you spent your special day doing something healthy and meaningful rather than alone and drunk.
