Five years
Five years
Just realized I reached my 5 year mark six days ago.
For those of you waiting to jump in, there will never be a better time for day one than today.
For those of you just a few days, weeks, or months in - you get better with practice at dealing with urges or the usual setbacks in life that would have previously provided the excuse to drink even more.
I liken sobriety to that moment in the movie Wizard of Oz when Dorothy is told she could have returned home to Kansas anytime she wanted to - she just had to click her heels three times.
It was amazing how close it was all this time - all I had to do was not have that next drink.

Congratulations, Orn! I am so happy for you!

I hope that newer folks here take inspiration from Ornithology's words. They are so true. You, too, can be here celebrating your fifth year of sobriety.
All the best!
