Are you drinking now, John? I know when I was a kid I had that 'self reliance thing' going for me,but it was fake. When I was a kid my future had endless possibilities and a lot of "it'll be better tomorrow".. While getting sober and going through my past 'crap' I thought my drinking was stemmed from, I realized I had never grown up and held myself and others accountable for my/their actions. Just swept it under the rug or ran away. Once I owned my stuff I was able to get some distance/sanity between myself and the people, places, things that aren't/were'nt good or positive for ME. Best wishes in whatever you choose to do. It's your life/story to write as you choose.

None of us is perfect or better than you. We are all in the same boat, just that some have found the key to sobriety. I believe that everyone wants to see you succeed, and some might express their frustration with the disease in a way that you don’t like. I hope you reconsider, because this place is a great help with great people.

I sincerely hope you decide not to go, John. Maybe a few posts were discouraging - but there's been a lot of love & understanding too. You're part of the family.

HI John................I hope you reconsider - at least check in from time to time. I've been around since 2014 myself. None of us are lost causes. ((John))

I have not been pursuing sobriety long here, but I have been reading here a loooong time. Have I seen a few "get real and snap out of it" posts? I have. I have also seen many, many, many words of support, encouragement, compassion, shared experience, kindness, empathy, etc. As you say, people come and go here, but there are some bedrocks of compassion and wisdom that are here all the time, like our Big Daddy Dee 74. Like Hevyn. Like Least. Like Gilmer. And there's many more, but my brain isn't retrieving their names at the moment. I hope that before you take off for a while, you will consider that sometimes people read quickly and react in print - sometimes things are misread or misinterpreted. The tone of voice is absent in a typed response. So are smiles and hugs except for emojis. Apparently you helped a couple of people too with your posts. I think they're going to miss you. Could you reconsider? Come back in a few days?

Childhood abuse hurts an is definitely unacceptable. PERIOD.

There are many cases of abuse out there in
the world and here in SR. Childhood, sexual,
physical, mental, emotional, phycological,
verbal and many more.

I am just one of many who was abused
by a sick mom dealing with her own demons.
I didn't ask for her to physically verbally
emotionally abuse me. I didn't want it and
yet I was.

Yrs later I used and abused alcohol to
numb memories and resentments I harbored
towards her until my own little family placed
me into the hands of those capable of helping
me.

There is help available to all those who have
been hurt, abused at the hands of sick people.

It's time to stop the hurting you have been
experiencing thru out your life. It's over and
now it's time to start the healing process. To
walk thru the doors and arms of those who
will help you let go of the pain and resentments
that keep you and many of us sick in our
addictions.

You dont have to leave SR. This is just
one of many lifelines available for us to
hang on to. We here in SR understand,
care and offer you/me/us support, love
and compassion.

Keep us but add another support system
near you. Do this for yourself because you
are worth it. You deserve happiness and
freedom from the pain of the past and your
addiction.

We are always here for you.

Are you reading different replies to the ones l am? Because (unless lm being dumb which is possible lol) all the ones l can see are from people who are being kind and supportive and wishing that you wouldn't leave. I'm at a bit of a lose as to why you would say that.

You are right and I am wrong. All the people here have been fantastic. Couldn't ask for more support. I was just responding to a PM I got. John

It's not about being right or wrong John. It's about getting better and being honest - primarily with ourselves. . There will always be those in life who we don't agree with or someone who wants to say something bad about us - just part of life.

I'm glad you've decided not to leave and hope we can help you move forward on your plan to quit.

Thanks for opening the door again. It was getting pretty bleak on my side of the door. I also realized that my moods are all over the place since my doctor changed my meds due to the prostrate exam coming up, plus I'm trying to quit smoking. I know my drinking doesn't help either. Maybe I'm taking on too much right now. Have a nice evening. John

Just big mood swings right now. Sorry if it seemed like I was taking it out on SR. If things don't improve soon, I'll talk to my doctor about getting my meds back to where they were. I was feeling great until the changes in my meds. I know I have to also quit drinking. Maybe also ease up on quitting cigs for a while. Been a real roller coaster ride lately. Sorry about all this. John

The door is always open here. I know you know your drinking isntb helping. You probably also know that it’s likely reducing the effectiveness of your meds, or possibly even making them have adverse effects...but it’s worth repeating. I would suggest that if you feel you are taking on too much, concentrate on quitting alcohol. It would be by far the most beneficial thing to you right now that you can control.
