Wedding on Day 5

I’m in the wedding. I won’t drink. The groomsman all know. I used the medication excuse for my type 1 diabetes. So I’m in the clear from peer pressure. My girlfriend (no issue with alcohol) is also not drinking in support of me.

I know for certain I won’t drink. I hope it’s still fun.

Will check in later to this thread. Help me stay strong 😇

I should also add that at this weeeing there will be about 30 people from my company, where I received a promotion yesterday.

Huge motivation not to drink? Won’t have to worry about having embarrassed myself when I wake up.

Congrats on your promotion RUL23. Aside from this, not drinking will also, amongst many positives - allow to you wake up clear headed, remember the event, have more money in your pocket, be present in the conversation and confirm that you don't need alcohol to have a great time at any party. Enjoy

Thanks. Ceremony over. Reception starting up in about two hours.

I’ll be good. But I am cranky as all hell.

Hang tough. Nothing saying you have to stay in the thick of things. Get away if you have to. And lean on your gf. You have support.

RUL - You're going to feel so good when you come through this unscathed. We know you can.

I think it's normal to be a bit cranky & resentful on only Day 5. It's a whole new experience for us - this being sober thing. It won't always feel this stressful, though. Let us know how the reception goes. Proud of you!

Your colleagues will secretly respect the heck out of you for not drinking. Hang tough.

Hope the night is winding down RUL.

Watch the crabbiness too - more than once I let that kind of simmering resentment about missing out lead me to a liquor store in the morning.

Thanks everyone. Two hours left. Hanging in there. Did about five fake shots.

They poured them for the whole table (polish wedding) so when everyone tilted their heads back my gf and I moved ours on the table. Friends next to us knew we weren’t drinking. His wife actually did the same.

I made it. On my way home. Both with no drinks. Driving safely.

Thanks everyone!

Heads up - take extra good care of yourself the next few days.

I'm not alcoholic, but I relate. My "dis-ease" often tries to seduce me back soon after I make good progress.

Congrats!

Good job getting through. As Dee and others often caution, the aftermath of a successful sober event can creep up on us after a bit....and make us think we can handle anything just fine, leaving a crack for the idea of drinking being ok to creep in.

I hope there aren't more tests coming up soon. Learning I truly could say NO to anything- really, anything- if it might taunt or risk my sobriety was a critical lesson. Doing what makes staying sober easier, and not harder, was really important for me.

Keep going.

You deserve a lot of credit. Tough conditions early on. Its funny, as you get a fair amount of time under your belt, its not stressful at all because their is strength in our resolve. Well done.
