Day 20

Today is day 20 and im not feeling so great. I keep having a dull aching headache that comes and goes. Im lightheaded and extremely tired. I have some cold symptoms, post nasal drip, and pressure in my sinuses. I wonder if this is due to my body getting use to being without alcohol or me coming down with a actual cold? Either way I cant wait till it passes and I start to feel good. I remember on a previous attempt to quit I didnt start to feel better until 35 day drive. Ill wait it out and see what happens. I have horrible sinuses anyways so maybe its just that.

as the omnipresent effects of alcohol are lifted, underlying conditions start to show up. also, as you noted, as our bodies start to heal, they tend to expel a lot of crap, one way or another!! you are in early days, treat yourself gently, acknowledge the symptoms, treat them accordingly.

in real life, allergies happen. colds happen. headaches happen. none require alcohol.

it has been said that often low grade headaches can actually be a sign of being dehydrated. can't say enough good stuff about good ole WATER.

Lots of people seem to end up with low level illness after quitting.

I know I never noticed being sick most of the time I was drinking cos I was drunk but we beat our bodies and minds up a lot drinking like we did.

Hope you feel better soon and that your immune system gets back to normal soon

D

Sober now 3 and a half months and I haven't had so much of a sniffle or a cold since I quit drinking. Whereas when I was drinking I was ill a lot.

Our immune system takes a battering when we are always drunk.

I don't think it's a coincidence I haven't had one since.

I hope you feel better soon. I’ve sobered up a number of times and I really hope that 1/21/17 is my last Day 1 ever! Often I would start to feel flu like symptoms around 2-3 weeks after quitting drinking and my doctor told me this is normal as your body evens out and rids itself from toxins.

Congrats on day 20, that is amazing!

I tend to get cold symptoms when I quit too, usually the first couple of weeks. My ears pop and I have more snot it seems. I'm also a cigarette smoker though too so that can contribute. As others have said, I'm sure its just the process of our bodies acclimating to poison leaving our bodies.

Stay strong!

Congratulations on day 20! I had symptoms very similar to a hang over for a while after I quit drinking. It was nice to know I was actually sick and not hung over. LOL
