Trouble sleeping

Hi everyone. So as the title says I have trouble sleeping. Sober a while now and was prescribed ambitriptoline for a kidney problem. It used to make me conk out. Slowly they have upped my dosage to 125mg and my body doesn't seem to sleep with it anymore. My appetite went through the roof in a terrible way that I was waking up at 3/4am craving sugar. All I ate was junk food. I stopped the pills a couple of days ago. I said no more I had been weaning myself off them because on the days that I didn't take them my kidney didn't feel any different. Now I can't sleep at all. I have a couple of diazipam the doctor gave me a few months back but I'm not sure if I should just let it be and hopefully my pattern will come soon. It's been so many years since I fell asleep on my own without any alcohol or meds. I haven't slept since Friday and I'm utterly exhausted

Hello lola

It's really not a good idea to suddenly decide that you are not taking a prescribed medicine. Any cessation should be discussed with your doctor. There are many, many medicines which will give you side effects and withdrawal symptoms.

I agree with decchemist not good to stop taking meds without your doctors advice. They can help wean you off slowly if need be.I know that no sleep is terrible I could not stay awake that long even if i tried.

I agree that you really should talk to your dr about coming off the medication for your kidneys.

It might take awhile for your sleep patterns to get to a normal sleep, but hopefully it won't take too long.

Thanks everyone they are not a tablet specifically for my kidney it's more to cut the pain off but they haven't been helping me at all. I did start to wean off them for a while and I told my doctor I would be doing it so there's no problem there it's just that I can't sleep which is bugging me

I would schedule an appointment back with your doc to get things in check with those meds. They might also prescribe you something for sleep and/or ask for a referral to a sleep specialist.
