I understand that you can’t understand the level of my mood swings. Timing of quitting can determine my success or not. If I’m having bad PMS which I suffer terribly from, it’s not an ideal time to quit but I’m trying it anyway. There is a week afterwards where my mood is relatively stable and getting through the first week is a lot easier. Not making excuses. I understand though that men may not understand. I’m at an age where my moods are all over. It makes it a lot harder though it’s always been hard for me to quit. I’m just hoping that the worst of this depression will get out of the way soon so this will not be so damn hard. And yes it is vicious cycle!
Related to this: I’m sure you aware that the underlying hormonal issues that cause PMS (an oestrogen imbalance, for example) are exacerbated by alcohol use. For women, drinking any alcohol at all can play havoc with our hormones and the more you drink — like it or no, advertisers, wine is NOT a woman’s friend! — the more chaotic your physiological response to alcohol becomes. Really, for women, alcohol abuse hits harder and takes longer than it does for men to recover from for a whole host of reasons, but a factor that is very much at play is our constant hormonal fluctuations, which are made much more difficult to deal with thanks to the considerable physical, neurological and endocrinal impacts of alcohol. I am a peri-menopausal woman myself and I can tell you this: I have been vastly more stable since I stopped drinking, although I’m by no means out of the woods yet.
Please, please, PLEASE stop drinking. From one woman to another: alcohol is deadly. Feel free to PM me if you need me, although I may not reply today.
