Dixie-- Yup, people, places and things. My ex doesn't have my address, phone number or e-mail. It was the only way I could sleep at night without that stomach-dropping fear. Just knowing he COULD contact me whether he did or not was enough to deraill my recovery. We have to do whatever it takes to be safe and to protect our sobriety. Good thought.

Dixie, one thing I forgot to mention. A man who is a good friend of mine in NA and is quite the old-timer told me that when I changed my phone number, I let go of a reservation. I thought I had completely surrendered already. This was an unconcious reservation but a reservation just the same. And like it says in the Basic Text (not word for word) 'as long as we hold onto them, we reserve a place for relapse.'

I've had a rough day and I'm tired too. I need to get some sleep; but I'm so wound up emotionally that I don't know if that will happen.

Well, very hard day, the hardest in a long time. But didn't act out. Was really tempted to do so, but got myself home right away (for me, if I go back home then I really don't act out, not usually anyway). I still feel odd, though, as if I am deep into my "stuff". I think it is the emotional leftovers from the evening. Will probably feel better tomorrow.

Best thing is not to force the sleep. Just let it come gradually. I was told once that we go to sleep in stages. Believe it or not, normally we keep going a little bit to sleep and then we wake up, then we fall deeper into sleep and then wake up a little less, and then deeper into sleep. Just sort of relax and let it happen. It will.
