Weekender Thread 09-13 August 2018
Manta, thinking of you. Losing a pet like Ollie, even to ripe old age is very traumatic. No pet will ever take another’s place, but for me it sure made things more bearable when we got a new dog when going through the same thing four years or so ago. If the topic of pet pictures arises this weekend, I’ll try and upload something (still not sure how to go about uploading pics - I’m somewhat technologically challenged).
Thanks Snuf, I think I’m doing well and, to be honest, a little proud of myself for having gotten to the 2 month mark again. Haven’t posted on it for a while, but still following your thread.
Congrats Bim, 230+ sober weekends that IS some achievement.
Really looking forward to see what everyone will be getting up to this weekend!

Sorry to hear about Ollie, Manta. 21 is an impressive age for a cat, but that doesn't really make it easier. I'm happy to hear that you are going to sit with your feelings and that you realize drinking isn't the way to honor Ollie. Have your cry, and if you feel like a drink might be a good idea, reach out. Use your tools from recovery and the the support you have here.
And Gilmer - I just read on the last weekender about your daughter - happy to hear things are ok with the baby. That must have been super scary. I had a miscarriage scare once too, and it was horrible.
I'm in for the weekend. Supposed to be a rainy one here in the Northeast US and I have no plans except to stay home and go to a yoga class on Saturday. I will get inside of my head easily and get depressed. Can't have that happen! I did buy a paint by numbers set awhile ago (a great memory from my childhood), so mabe I will get that all done!
Been a testing day and ready for bed! Went for some food today and the server gave me ginger beer that had the same amount of alcohol as a strong cider! Ginger beer in the UK is never alcoholic so I was very lucky my mind for some reason told me to read the label on the bottle, otherwise I would have had alcohol without wanting to or intending to, phew!
Off to bed, take care all xx

I'm also out for the night.
MantaLady, well done today. It was a trying day for you, indeed. I hope you get some sleep.
Nice to see you in Weekender, DarklingSong.
Welcome rae1973.
Paint by Numbers. That sounds kinda fun LHW.

Bimini - I was reminiscing about my elementary school days recently and the fact that I used to LOVE to do paint by numbers came to mind. Believe it or not there are actually some pretty nice looking kits out there, the one I bought is of a lovely beach scene. It is tedious, some of the spots barely have a stroke of paint on them and there is a lot of mixing colors to get the desired effect. Way different than 40+ years ago!
Could be a fun rainy day activity. I'll keep everyone posted.

Noticed last night that a spring on the garage door broke. Gotta guy coming in the morning to fix it. But the garage was still stuffed with dear departed uncles possessions. So Mrs Dragon and I spent the day sorting and moving. I'll almost be glad to get back to work next week for a rest, this has been a few of the busiest vacation weeks ever!
Woken up at 05:00 by my dog who discovered a hedgehog in the garden. He was barking mad
Welcome to the weekender Rae.
Nice job MantaLady.
Gilmer (Kathy) hope everything has settled down for your daughter.
LHW if you're feeling down over the weekend come on here and post it.
Dragon if I ever have any moving to do I will think of you
.....
I was thinking about not writing about it but I need to vent a little. I found out a few days ago that my older brother had disappeared again fell completely off the radar for about 3 weeks.
Well he came home to my mothers a few days ago jobless moneyless and the proverbial broken down wreck. It's back to rehab and detox. It's been that way for years and it's getting real annoying....
And My brother in law, sister's husband, who is 44 had an operation on Wednesday for prostate cancer. He was diagnosed with a PSA of 20 a few weeks ago and he was high on some other scale too (Gleason score) . Preliminary tests say it had not spread. An aggressive prostate cancer in a young man of 44 is more serious than in an older man. The operation lasted 5.5 hours. The surgeon said he had to "go wide" and removed lymph nodes... The consequences of the operation may be very serious, life changing, potential problems with bowel and bladder control (incontinence) not to mention some other couple stuff... The future is going to be a challenge for him my sister and their two small children.....
Sorry about all the venting...
On a brighter note we are off to the camping site this morning for a week in the mountains. So next post from the tent hopefully
Need coffee....

Morning all!
Enjoy your camping weekend Vman. I’m sorry to hear about your brother and brother in law, and wish them the best.
Enjoy the last few days of your vacation week, Dragon. Our garage door also got buggered a while ago. It go stuck halfway and we couldn’t get anything in or out for a week till it got fixed.
Manta, glad you turned down that ginger beer!
A rainy weekend spent painting sounds great LHW.
