Youth and Age- Sobriety
Youth and Age- Sobriety
When I was young and drinking episodically I was a risk taker. Driving too fast. Emotionally unstable. Losing my temper. Impatient. I’m sure many of you know the territory well.
Now I am 91. Old. I feel like I’ve had an enormous change. With age and sobriety I am more patient, careful, more in control emotionally, do things slowly, one step at a time. Like my dad used to be so many years ago. When I was young I thought I would never be like my dad. But now it’s different. And I am happier. Life is a gift and I still have a job to do.

The key, as I have said before, is to search for sobriety with others. Have others, including the more experienced, on the rope up the mountain. For perhaps thousands of years people have been collective in nature. They do not flourish in solitude. Look everywhere and you will see this. It helped me get well. It will help you. By loving and caring for others a person comes to care for and respect him/her self.
