Why doesn’t matter

Questioning why one drinks so much etc is pointless. The important question is how do I stop doing this to myself? I drank so much because I’m an alcoholic. Simple... why is not important. What are you going to do about it is the important thing. I’m so grateful for my knowledge and acceptance that I’m an alkie. Its given me a great life.

Agree. The why's of my mental health issues became important once I got sober, to the extent that we connected dots on my issues and maladaptive behaviors to what actiOn to take now that I am in recovery.

It's this simple, if hard at times.

The relief I felt and continue to feel the moment I let go of negotiating with it is and continues to be profound. I wouldn't trade the peace with it for the world.

You are right if all you want to do is stop drinking. I feel though if you want to stay dry you have to understand what got you to that place so it doesn’t happen again. Then you stay dry but everyone’s way and path is different.

A great piece of advice I heard in my early recovery was “live in the solution not in the problem”. This is very powerful for both recovery from alcoholism as well as mental health issues.
