Am I enabling?

Looking for some guidance, or maybe just some perspective. I’ve taken over paying my alcoholic fathers bills (with his own money) to make sure things are being paid and he doesn’t end up homeless. He doesn’t work and is just living off his dwindling savings (while spending 25+ a day on alcohol), and has made no attempt to try to get sober. Am I just adding to the problem? Should I walk away and let whatever happens, happen?

That's a tricky spot to be in. Personally I'd set the payments up on "auto pay" when offered and let the 'chips fall where they may',but then you're faced with what to do after he's broke and what to do then. How old is your father?

Don't give up on him. Have you tried an intervention? He may need treatment to clear his head not that it always works, but it's an idea.

That's a tough spot to be in. :( I think setting the bills on autopay and telling him you've done that might help, at least ease the burden on you a little.

I agree. Try to put things on automatic payment and then you can step back. That way, when your Dad runs out of money, it will be his responsibility and not yours. You might also check out AlAnon in your city as a support for you.
