Introduction

Hello everyone...glad I found you.

Today I'm happily sober for 666 days. I got sober after 35+ years of drinking(and other things) heavily. Played a large role in messing up my life, relationships, jobs, health, etc. I have been able to stay married for 22 years, and have a terrific 20 year old daughter.

My wife will be out of town for the next week or so, and those temptations have come back strong. So far so good at keeping them at bay, but I must admit to running scenarios for getting down to the store when she leaves and buying something to have a little "fun". By now I'm pretty experienced at being able to go through all the reasons why that would be a losing proposition for me, and I'm fairly confident that while the temptation is stronger then it has been in some time, that I've been able to remember enough bad stuff that has happened to me in the past to see that any fantasy of pleasure that a few drinks that I might dream up are just that, dreams, and that staying away from booze is my best option. That all said, I thought I'd take the extra step of coming here tonight. I don't go to AA meetings, not my thing. I do see counselor/addiction specialist/MD once a month, and have been for several years now. Mostly just to check in. I have other resources available to me as well to speak with other addicts/alcoholics and that has been helpful too. But I thought I would visit a new place and maybe get some additional thoughts/support that might prove helpful.

So there it is. Again, great to be here, and am looking forward to hearing from folks, and reading about others journeys. :thanks

Welcome! :) I hope you don't give in to temptation. If you are tempted, come here and post about it so we can talk you out of it. :)

Welcome Sonic :)

I found the 'when the cats away' scenario to be iuncreasingly more purile as I got older.

A guy in his late 30s (as I was then) acting like a teenager home alone looking to "get away" with stuff was not a good look.

I enjoy being an adult so much more and wish I'd done it when everyone else did :)

Thanks folks! I appreciate the comments, and i agree with the being an adult part. Especially since my 20 year old is home for the summer, and so she see's me, and has been witness to my not so great days of being drunk, which was quite upsetting to her. So that I'm not like that now has really helped our relationship. Feeling better tonight and looks like I'll be putting another day under the belt. Thanks again!
