Just signed up

I've always enjoyed a drink socially and I hardly ever drank at home, unless I had guests around for dinner. Then, seven years ago my partner committed suicide, this is when I started drinking heavily. In the evenings - never through the day. It hasn't affected my job, but it has made a mess of my complexion, so I have decided to do something about it. I know I can, because I have given up other addictions in the past. I used to smoke cannabis, heavily, but stopped completely about 15 years ago. I also used to smoke cigarettes, 20 a day. This was actually a lot harder to kick than the cannabis, and I had to try various treatments and alternatives before I managed to give up. Last year I decided to have a go at cutting down on alcohol, by going for a month without it - that was October. I have been cutting back - but still drink most nights. Today I came across this site and decided to sign up and make a concerted effort to get the problem under control.

If by "under control" you mean quit drinking, I say, wise decision.

Alcohol delayed my grief over the loss of my wife. I thought it was a great tool, but really it held me back. Wise of you to end your habit with alcohol. I did and it has been a wonderful decision. My mood really improved and I have tons more energy. Not to mention extra $$ from the money I save. Welcome aboard.
