No Support at home!

I feel trapped and boxed in at home. I can’t talk about my feelings or any of the issues I’m dealing with. Because they won’t understand. However, there is one good thing about where I live, no one drinks alcohol. But I’m not enjoying my life. I take meds for Fibromyalgia and I sometimes take more than prescribed, which worries me. I have been talking to a counselor. She’s the only person who understands what I’m going through. I need to see her more often. I just don’t see a good future.

What stops you from seeing a good future for yourself? Seems like you deserve one just as much as anyone. Take care of you and definitely talk to your counselor about taking more than prescribed. Hugs.

Are you stuck at home? If so, any way you can get out of the house and go out and about more; see some different scenery?

It's quite common that other people don't have a clue what we go through in recovery, especially in early recovery. But, that's okay. You can get through this. I'm glad that you have a counsellor, and you can always come here and post, because we do understand.

That is a common frustration. I had it. That's why I participated here at SR - so I could communicate with people who would understand. I also went to AA meetings for a while. The 12 steps weren't my path to a sober life, but it was nice to spend some time with other people who understand the compulsion. I also met up with another alcoholic through Lifering. There are no Lifering meetings where I live, but we had lunch a couple of times.

Those people at home are never going to understand. Go find some who do!

Best of Luck on Your Journey! :ring

Hi - I don't have that support at home either. My husband is a heavy drinker, (I think alcoholic). Lack of support regarding alcohol at home and with friends is a primary reason (like Nonsensical) that I participate in SR. Folks here understand and are living the sober life with the same trials, tribulations and successes that we are. You may prefer the F2F support of AA. I don't attend AA myself, but I'm finding a huge amount of support here at SR. Normies don't understand.
