For my first social event, I was able to "come clean" with a couple of friends. One was respectful of my wishes while the other didn't belive me and tried several times to buy me a drink. Unfortunatly, I had to raise my voice at him, but the moment quickly passed and I did have fun. We did leave at a 'respectful' time and I was quite happy with myself. I also recall having quite a bit of anxiety about the whole thing for weeks prior.

Gilmer, have good off-grid. We'll leave a light on.

I will have refrigerator number 2 (3?) delivered Tuesday. Andy, you can stop worrying. I never realized how much I valued a quiet refrigerator. It's the little things that dripdripdrip at sanity.

Sober Saturday morning never gets old. Regardless of the gnawing little undercurrent that is life sometimes, it's easier and better by far without a hangover.

I interrupt your regularly scheduled Weekender Thread for this announcement:

I had my routine checkup with my doctor yesterday. My blood numbers were very good. So good, in fact, he has eliminated yet another drug from my daily regimen, and reduced another. I lost 14 pounds in the last year, and my risk of heart attack has decreased 40% over that time. My doctor told me I am the only one of his male patients over 50 whose heart attack risk profile is improving.

Quite gratifying to think that not only did sobriety make my life better, but I might also get to have a bit more of it!

THANK YOU SR!

And now - back to your regularly scheduled Weekender Thread.

IN!
For Life!

Keep it sober y'all!

The only med I take is thyroid. But yeah, at one point during my drinking days I was on a lot of meds.

Nonsensical, thank you for using the word "regimen" instead of "regime."

~signed, Grammar Police. (not really, just THAT WORD )

We are doing well, Venus. Of course, I would love something to take the edge off, but it's getting better day by day. Old habits die hard. I had lifelong crippling migraines and they just kept adding more and more Rx drugs so I could somewhat keep my life on track (you know, go to work, pay bills, stuff like that) without totally melting down.

All Hail Menopause, is all I have to say about that. (Sorry, Y-chromosome people.) The struggle is real.

There is a huge moth in my house and he's freaking me out...Andy...help.

We can talk about that, and privately if you want to.... I hear you re the fun....so does Nick....he has dealt with the hormones. I was not exactly nice for a while there.

Well, you moved your entire life to a different country (and to OHIO) and you moved in with someone you didn't know very well. I would hesitate to blame hormones entirely.

I went through "my own private summer" at age 45. Thank you baby Jesus for taking away the migraines. If I would have known, I would have had a surgically created "change" when I was thirty. I mean - I knew at 16 I didn't want kids.

You are the only other woman I have ever known who didn't want kids.
Sorry.....selfish of me.....but it is always very heartwarming to feel understood.

And thank you....and you are right, 100%.
And actually, not very nice is somewhat of an understatement.
I threatened to leave a lot....it was pretty hard for me here for a while....but we are doing well now.

I used to participate in a thread on another forum where there were hundreds of child-free-by-choice women (and men.) It just isn't something that's easy to talk about with a bunch of people who do have kids. You are certainly not alone, Venus.

I suppose some people would like to try to call it selfish. I choose to call it self-awareness.

Georgia is interesting this morn. It's only 74F but the humidity is at 94%. You can drink the air.

What really surprises people, doctors included, is that I have no prescriptions.

Bim, Venus....Right there with you girls! I also knew as a teenager that I didn't want kids....wanted a hysterectomy to eliminate the horrible monthly visitor, but people tried to convince me "you might change your mind" ~ I'm 41 now....Nope! Rip this crap out!

Anyway, GBE I can't think of any more advice other than the awesome suggestions above, but I hope you enjoy the wedding

Have a relaxing weekend, Gilmer! Talk to you soon!

Speaking of sleeping like crap, I need to stay focused on this AV nagging me about later....and the HALT 'cause right now I think I'm all of the above! Thanks everyone for being here
