Kinda hard to move The Fourth of July to another day. And some of us celebrate it with reverence. Not really a "holiday".

you get the day off work don't you? I'd call that a holiday. maybe it has different connotations in American English.

We know you were just joking, Vman.

Shotgun has been the cause of many a discussion here.

Every day is a holiday for me. When I'm broke, remind me of this hubris.

We tend to associate the word “holiday” with a celebratory party time.

The deeper meaning of the day can get lost in the festive mood.

I celebrate the Fourth of July by firing up the grill and going to see fireworks. I LOVE THEM. Suggestions for grilling? Send them my way. Thinking of steak, because it always goes over well. I wish we could get some halloumi cheese here. My sis in law introduced it to me when we went to London in the summer. That was an awesome trip. So glad we will see her and her family end of the month! I read baby back ribs in here. MMMM... Going to spend some time exploring online recipes. Not good for my diet, but it must be done. Happy FOURTH.

Isn’t halloumi cheese the Turkish cheese that you can fry without melting?

I’ve read about it but never tasted it.

Here’s something to occupy your brains in the torturous absence of the World Cup:

I just got the official news that I’ve most likely got less than a year to live!

I’m serious! It sounds like a joke, but it’s not.

I had melanoma of the eye in 2010, and the tumor itself was killed by radiation; however, there must have been some rogue cells in the bloodstream that went undetected, because now, eight years later, they’ve metastasized to my liver.

There is some effective treatment for stage IV melanoma of the skin, but none for ocular melanoma.

I started a separate thread about it here on the Newcomers’ forum called “A Different Path.”

I don’t want to hijack this thread with it, so please feel free to take the discussion over there.

I’m fine emotionally—I still feel fine physically, too.

Keep me in your thoughts and prayers! I’ll be hanging around SR as usual till I can’t do it anymore.

It seems totally unreal!

You'll be in my prayers, I already got down on my knees after I saw your thread. May you continue to find peaceful acceptance and a pain-free journey.

I am simply devastated by your news, Gilmer. I have left a message in your thread (as you know). I just wanted to reiterate how very much you mean to me and, I know, to so very many of us.

Sending you an abundance of love and uplifting so much prayer.

One of those wet eye moments.
Gilmer, I will be thinking of you.

It seems like you are not going into the psychological wasteland so often associated with cancer. I'm not surprised really. Class.

Vinny.
