Thinking about have ONE beer...
For me, it's wouldn't be the fear of withdrawal, it's a much bigger, badder fear: breaking the "sobriety" seal, much like on a bottle of liquor, providing an opening back into my life. Even a crack, and that addiction would almost certainly start to wiggle its way through. Not immediately; it might take weeks, or months, but it's got time to wait, because it's found its way back in. Only a matter of time before it's running the show again...
Withdrawal symptoms are a walk in the park compared to what I'm scared of, man!

You may just have that one this time, but it will snare you back into a pattern of active drinking thinking. If its tempting to have one this time (and you manage that), imagine how tempting it will be the next time. Heck you did fine with one Maybe you can get away with two or three next time? It continues on from there.
Been there done that.
Edit: glad to see you went for the coke instead!

Never drank one beer, never saw the point, and never would. I’m an alcoholic. Once you have a drink you’ve allowed alcohol to become an option again. Inevitably that means getting smashed again and cue the tears and life turning into a train wreck in a very short space of time. That is and will always be my experience. Get recovered and the insanity will be removed.
Grateful to be sober.

Lots of great comments above- and you did have a soda instead of beer, which is great!
HOWEVER....Imma comment what Dee and others often say (ha, I guess I do too!) - a "victorious" and "successful" outing in a testing-yourself-situation (which is btw a deliberate choice) can give you the feeling in a few days, a week, sometime soon possibly, that you can do that whole kind of thing again without drinking.
Maybe you can the next time...even the next....but why keep testing it, esp so early? Someone might have mentioned roulette above - that's definitely something I took off the table immediately and permanently. And like others said, I've found what I really enjoy in sobriety.
Best to you.

Great job having that soda! As Arpeggioh says, "Why break the sobriety seal?" I relapsed after 112 days with 1 beer. A couple of days later, had 2 or 3, then the next day, had many more. Fortunately my sober days are accumulating again. You did great avoiding that 1 beer.
Just read you had a Diet Coke instead of a beer--well done! I wrote this before I read that ---Hi, Strength. I would encourage you not to have that one drink. I played the game of attempting moderation and it just doesn't work for me--I have no off switch regarding booze. I had 15 years of sobriety and through complacency and thoughts that I had it figured out and could drink normally I dove right back into the madness and it was the fight of my life to climb back out.
There is a phenomena called 'kindling' in which each subsequent detox is worse than the one before. I know from past experience that this is a real thing. Don't risk it. Wishing you the best.

Good for you!
Nice job choosing the soda! I went to a bar a bit ago for a fundraiser and got a 7 up. I was glad. I agree with the other posters. If I had one I was off to the races. I could easily drink a 12 pack. The only way to avoid it was to not drink the first one. Keep up the good work!
