I find the community spirit of church very beneficial. There is lots of service work you can do through your church. I know people don't necessarily look to churches anymore. When people ask why we go, it is two fold, for the adults and the kids. For Dh and I, we find comfort in the tradition of church, comfort in it as a community. For the kids, it starts a spiritual education. Sure I could teach them at home, I could teach them trigonometry too. But I am not the best person to do it lol.
Our church does a lot of outreach, some of our mission work is with young mom's, girls in our own community, we run the food bank. We have a heavy emphasis on stewardship.
I am glad you went! Treat it as you do other aspects of recovery, take what you need, leave the rest.

So nice to read this, Mummy. I talk to God all day long: I got sober through a prayer, and I keep my head level through daily ongoing prayer. I start and end my day with prayer.
He will never forsake me, even though I am not perfect.

I'm not very religious but, I enjoy church when I do go. It's a lot like when I go to AA..I feel 'cleaner',more focused and refreshed. I also always leave with some things to really think about on how I'm living my life,ect..Keep it up with the positives life has to offer.
I'm so glad you went to church, Mummy. I've found my church to be very helpful over my 31 months of sobriety--it is an uplifting group of diverse people. Playing bass in the comptemporary worship band has led me to some wholesome friendships and people who care; my pastor is going to help me find a place to get my teeth fixed as my dental health went by the wayside in my drinking days--they've just been very supportive at a time when things were chaotic.
Day 3 is awesome, and the feeling of waking up sober and clear-headed just can't be beat! I'm praying for you and your family. Best to you.

Keeping busy is the key!
This link might be useful if you need some help at sometime, I have been away volunteering in the past and one lady I helped out with a building project had an Australian nanny with her for 6 months to help out with the baby.
