Thumbs up What to do?

I know the first thing I need to do is stop the drinking and other substances. It's when I am sober for a few weeks that I start to think about the destruction I caused and get overwhelmed. I get bored and anxious, mind starts racing with never-ending thoughts. Beer calms the anxiety. I get to a point where I just can't take it and I drink. I need to see a doctor because the anxiety is the number one reason for drinking. AA helps but I get paranoid there.

I think you pretty much answered your own question. Scheduling an appointment with your doc would be a great first step. You can also ask them to give you a referral to an addiction therapist to help with your alcohol and anxiety issues.

Try and stay strong...one day at a time. Reach out for help, just know you are NEVER alone

You pretty much answered your own question - but to summarize

1. Stop drinking.

2. See a counselor that can help with your anxiety.

3. Put together a sobriety plan that will keep you on track.

4. Remind yourself ever day that you don't drink because of the anxiety - you drink because you are an alcoholic.

You've been struggling for many years. We all had anxiety when we drank and especially in early sobriety.

The alcohol is causing this.

Read around the forums. It's so common, because that's what alcohol CAUSES.

The past will sort itself out in sobriety.
