There’s nothing so bad a drink cannot make it worse.

Insanity isn't doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over knowing very well what the results will be.

Go easy. You may have to push forward, but you don't have to push so hard. Go in gentleness - go in peace.

In science, it is called energy. In religion it is called spirit. In psychology, it is called instinct. In the streets, it is called vibes. Whatever you call it, trust it.

You don’t wake up wishing you drank last night.

"...I also accept the thought of a drink will probably come again, not sure when, but I also accept I do not have to act on the thought...This is a mantra for me...every thought is just a thought...surprise, surprise a thought does not have power unless I feed it...I will starve the thoughts hurtful to my well-being..."

This isn't a quote exactly but it has helped me tremendously to eliminate stress as a trigger:

Approach unpleasantness in a positive and productive manner.

When I think about what alcohol will do to me, if I drink again, I remember how Kyle Reece describes the Terminator

"Listen, and understand! That Booze is out there! It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop... ever, until you are dead!"

Pleasingly , I can avoid all of that by simply not drinking !

Great thread Dee! And thanks for all the excellent quotes so far. I've saved several of them already.

I'm just offering the quote in my signature, below. Though it doesn't mention alcohol specifically, it really speaks to me at this point, because I can get pretty down on myself about the past. This reminds me instead that every "today" is a chance to make a brand new tomorrow.

Let it go… don’t let the past steal your present too.
