Aa first meeting
Just got back from my first meeting and I知 happy I took the steps to go there
I listened and absorbed and I知 going again tomorrow, I have a list of all the meetings for each day of the week
At this early stage I知 glad there are meetings every night of the week whilst I ordinarily would be drinking

Well done Stew. It takes a lot of courage to walk into your first meeting alone. I don’t think I could have done it. I went with a friend. But it was a turning point. I don’t remember much about my first meeting, but I do remember I left with some hope that wha,t worked for them might work for me too. And that proved to be justified.
For my first few meetings I concentrated on identification. I looked for the similarities in people’s drinking. The two main ones were inability to stay away from the first drink, and the loss of control after it. Looking for those two things, I could identify with almost every speaker.
All the best Stew.

Thanks everyone. I知 proud of myself tonight for doing that.
I found I was relating to a lot of the contributions. There were lots of different people there.
I知 better off tonight for the action I took- it was a step forward for me
I said the prayer at the end and felt some relief

good job on working your plan Stew and planning your next steps.
there is something quite reassuring about having an AA schedule with you, or at least a print out of the week's meetings.....you know that a meeting is never THAT far away. i was lucky when i first got sober that there was an AA Meeting Hall just up the street from my house.....since my work schedule was a bit, um, iffy, there were many many days i could hit the Nooner, the Five and the Seven Thirty. it was exactly what i needed at the time.

good on ya!
now, at your next meeting, ask for ohone numbers from members. do that at every meeting you go to this week.
every night, call one of them numbers even if just to say hi. if someone doesnt answer, leave a message and call the next.
oh, and get a copy of the big book, too!

Yes, Stew, you are better off for the action you took. Doesn't it feel good to just be able to show up and know that nobody could have done that for you, that you made that decision on your own and followed through with it? Now, you own it. Nobody gave it to you. I'm so proud of you. You know what they say, "Keep coming back, it works if you work it."
Good work, I encourage you to throw yourself into it, get numbers, arrange coffee with fellow members in between meetings, read your Big Book.
I found embracing recovery work was a life changer for me.
Stick with it, it is so worth it.
