I'm trying again
HI Laura. Its hard in the beginning - noones denying that, but it'll get harder each time you put it off.
Give it all you've got. You don't want to wake up one day wondering where the last 20 years went.

I only had two drinks last night to keep me balanced until I detox. I might be able to taper off without going on medication. If I only have one drink tonight I could get through withdrawal on Monday without too much discomfort. I've been thinking about my recovery plan. I erased my YouTube history. One of the things I would do while drinking is listen to music. Those songs will remind me of drinking so I got rid of them. I'm going to join a support group, not sure which one yet. I don't want to be one of those people who quit drinking but never change. It's pointless to get clean and sober while doing the same things. I've known people like that.
I'm glad to hear your moving toward eliminating alcohol from your life. In my opinion, you don't have to change your life in one day. The first job is to quit the drink, eliminating as many triggers as you can. Deleting the YouTube history was positive. After you're sober, you can work on adding more positive changes.
You sound much stronger today than you did yesterday, Keep going. ((HUGS))

Great to hear Laura, positive steps. I agree with Rar, do not try and achieve too much in a little time. Focus on staying sober and then start making small changes, over time those will add up. Trying to to do too much too soon can be overwhelming especially if we dont get the results we desire straight away.
I can identify with the music issue. I used to do the same, always had a stack of the same songs I'd play one after the other, each one took me further down and made me more morose than the last.
I started to download different music in the last 2 weeks, stuff that is light and happy and feelgood, stuff I used to listen to as a teenager or heard on the radio when I was a kid that was fun. It has made a massive difference as music very much has a big influence on my moods. After 2 weeks sober I really don't want to listen to the old stuff that used to bring me down anymore.
Take it a day at a time and as all the other peeps on the thread are saying, don't try to do to much too soon, initially just do what you need to do to not drink that day. When your stronger you can start adding in other things. xx
