First time poster, long time reader

Hi all, after 4 halfhearted attempts, I’ve drawn up my recovery plan, and I’m heading to a meeting tomorrow. Day 5 today and it’s tough because I think some kindling effects are there in terms of bad anxiety etc, but I’m glad to be able to check in with this amazing community.

Welcome, MrMustard, and brilliant on day 5! I used to lurk here a lot but I find I get a lot more out of posting. Wishing you all the best on your sober journey.

Welcome Mr. Mustard. I had bad anxiety too, which decreases somewhat as my sobriety time increases. My morning anxiety is mostly gone now. For some, it goes away entirely. I'm looking forward to getting to know you. I hope SR will help in keeping you sober for good.

Thanks for posting and good luck.

My anxiety was 90% driven by the cycle of poison. Though I have the ennui, life frustrations, work/money/family stress that everyone has - that horrible anxiety has already gone away even just a month since my last drink.

Keep posting.

Welcome Mr Mustard and I look forward to reading more of your posts. Great community here and I wouldn't be where I am without their support and wisdom, absolutely agree with everyone above that posting and getting involved has got me driving the bus now instead of being a passenger and it's helped massively. The anxiety has also decreased a LOT as the days tick by.

Have a great sober day today and congrats on reaching Day 5!! xx

Hi mrmustard. Great job taking the first step. If you have been reading for a while then you know this site is a wealth of information and support.

For me the anxiety is very predictable. The first few days are bad. After about a week it is gone. After a few weeks I have nothing more than momentary, passing anxiety. Stick with it. Work your recovery plan. You can do this and it is worth it.

Welcome MrMustard! Sober living can be far better than any drug/alcohol.

Welcome! Good for you on posting!

I read around silently lurking for two years or more before posting, but once I finally did, I turned the corner toward lasting change and sobriety. Hope it’s the same for you!

Thanks all, amazing replies and it has given me strength, went to my very first meeting this morning and it was actually really good, very welcoming and I'm going to stick with it. My life is actually good in terms of job, family, etc, I am just pretty bereft of light at the moment. I just need to get through the next couple of weeks and I know there will be more light and less fear, but it feels like a long, long time ahead right now.
