Day 1

I have been drink I heavily for the last year or two and decided last night to stop cold turkey. Tapering off wasn't working for me and I don't want to go to detox. I am feeling fine, only slightly hungover. I am a little worried since it can be dangerous but I believe this is the only way I can quit.

Welcome tomSR, Laura. Very glad that you found us.

Is there anyone with you who can monitor your withdrawal?

Withdrawals can be tricky; if you have any concerns with how you are feeling, it would be a good idea to go to the ER or call your GP. A medically supervised detox could make the process much easier. It might be only an overnight process.

Stay close to us, too. We care.

Welcome Laura. :)

If I find I am feeling too sick I will try the tapering off method and have one beer until I see a doctor.

I'm not a doctor and this isn't medical advice.

That disclaimer aside - I'd strongly recommend seeing a doctor before having a beer to taper off. If you are concerned about withdrawl symptoms go see a doctor. They'll be able to help you through detox without the need to poison you while doing it.

Otherwise the question isn't so much whether you want to go to detox or not. It's do you want to get sober? From there the choices are quite straightforward. Personally I think sobriety rocks and is well worth it. Even if it's a bit inconvenient at the start...

Best-

B

Yes you're right, it isn't the best plan, I should see a doctor tomorrow

So it's been 24 hours and I don't have any serious withdrawal symptoms. I will probably go to a meeting tomorrow

Sounds like a good plan, Laura.

Stay close.

Not medical advice but maybe keep an eye on your pulse rate and blood pressure if you can. If either one gets real high, its time to head to the doc.

Laura3 05-10-2018 05:14 PM

I have been checking my pulse but I'm not sure how to check my blood pressure

You'd have to have a blood pressure cuff. If you dont' have one its not possible. Just be aware of how you are feeling. As you know, withdrawals can be serious.

I'm probably one of the lucky ones who don't get withdrawal symptoms. I don't remember getting them in the past. I have gone through them with drugs but not alcohol
