Goal 10 days

Hangover day 1 easy. Day two feeling better say 3 bender. I have had 20 years of this misery. 10 days sober is a dream goal. Why is it some can give up and others can't?

You must have gotten some ideas from reading here HC?

Has anything struck you as something you could do to stay sober?

You can do it HC.
Everyone can give up.
You just have to become that person.
Another 20+ years of alcoholism here too... so believe in yourself.

Ten days is huge. Are you kidding me?

I just made up my mind that I wasn’t going to do it anymore. Rehabs, 12 Step and therapy just reinforced it.

You can do this. It’s really as simple as not lifting a glass to your lips. It’s not EASY, but it’s simple. The what is a no brainer. The how can keep you distracted long enough to become someone who no longer drinks and/or drugs.

I hope if you are in mental or physical distress you have some medical recourse. Detox and withdrawal are no joke.

At this point the strongest thing you can do is to reach out and accept help from whatever sources you can find.

Stay with us please.

I especially echo that last line- "stay with us please"!!

There is lots of support here- have you seen the "Class of" threads? People quitting in May are still in their 1-10 period too!

I am also a 12 stepper and AA has saved my life. At the beginning I was so sick I just had to get through each day. My drs helped too.

I was a completely wretched drunk and even I wasn't hopeless.

Please decide you want to be sober- as noted above, it is simple to not drink, but it is not easy.

Best to you- you can do this.

The ones who don't, usually say, "I can't."

I'm on day 10 now.

11 days ago I was in A&E because of my drinking binge. If I can do it anyone can.

I feel fantastic. The first 4 days were horrible. Then it's got easier and easier.

Detox

Hi glad to hear you have achieved 10days. Did they detox you in hospital?

Wow congrats buddy!! I'm about at the same step as you at day 12. What you did is awesome! Let's make a deal and both get to day 20!

No. Just fluids as dehydrated. Had to ride it out at home. I basically stayed in bed for 2 days.

English hospitals from what I gather don't offer detox facilities. You need to go to a special detox service but the process is slow. It takes weeks to get referred. They advise you to carry on drinking whilst you wait for support.

I was pretty much all alone. The experience has made me never want to drink again

Staying in bed

I can definitely relate to staying in bed for days to get the alcohol out my system.
