Weight gain anti depressants heart burn

Wondering if anyone on here has been on antidepressants and drinking heavily as well. I certainly have and have had terrible heartburn now for about 4 years. When I drink it becomes intolerable leading me to vomit. Everyone I know on antidepressants drinks to excess.

Drinking while taking any meds is a really bad idea. Since alcohol is a depressant, drinking while taking antidepressants is counteracting the effects at best and downright dangerous at worst.

I would guess your heartburn is likely related to your heavy drinking, but you'd likely want to check with your doctor to make sure.

I haven't been on any medication however when I was heavily drinking I got unbearable heartburn. Since I quit it has completely gone.

I think you need to talk with your doctor. You've started multiple threads here all basically asking the same question in a different way. If you have medical issues because of your drinking you need to seek medical help. I'd suggest starting with the doctor who prescribed your antidpressants and letting them know how much you drink.

no doubt the bad heartburn is from drinking. I would lay in bed and just moan it was so bad. finally I would get up and take an antacid (tums) and it worked great.

and yes ad's are known for weight gain. probably pointless taking them if you're still drinking. they didn't mix well for me. quitting drinking was the answer.

Hi highercall

most anti-deps, in fact most meds I've taken, come with a little leaflet telling you not to drink alcohol with them.

At best, your meds probably won't work like they should and at worst it could be a dangerous combination like Scott suggested.

The side affects vary according to the type of anti dep med. You'd really have to see your Dr to discuss this in detail.

I had chronic heartburn too but that was just from drinking and smoking. something to consider.

If everyone you know abuses alcohol on psych meds, you need to find new friends.
You should never drink on medications, especially ones for mental health. Also the "heartburn" from drinking is actually the alcohol and stomach acids backing up and frying your esophagus. Time to get off the booze.
