Day 4

Here I am..

I've joined the gym and soon will be off to my 4th AA meeting in 3 days. I know that if I want a life of sobriety I must work at it.

It is no good me saying I no longer wish to drink. I have to put real effort in by changing my habits. I have to make lifestyle changes. Yesterday I joined a gym and am going there for the first time today.

I never want to go back to my old life which revolved only around drinking. It's early days but I believe.

Well that went well. Not.

Have a friend over from overseas and had to meet him for lunch at a restaurant then planned to go gym after.

Was full of anxiety about going to a place where I would usually drink.

Had a coke and didnt drink but the whole 90 minutes was an anxiety nightmare.

Now home in bed and don't feel very good at all. Very anxious and down. The alcohol related anxiety is so strong.

you are still very early in recovery.
your brain is still re-wiring...
don't feel bad. feel good that you made it through!
it gets easier... take care of yourself.
drink a lot of water and continue with your plan!
time to head to the gym!

Getting a gym membership really helped with my sobriety. One reason is if you work really hard in the gym, you don't really want to ruin by drinking. Drinking will erase all your hard work.

Glad you made it through...the anxiety should pass.

Yet you met your friend at a place you would normally drink. It's like you didn't take you own advice. Or perhaps you didn't think that was the kind of change that you needed to make. Not good to put yourself, your sobriety, at risk in these early days.

People, places, things. They all have to change.

Yes I know. I shouldn't have put myself in that situation. It was a friend I may not see again for a year or more and the weather is so bad here I couldn't suggest a walk in the park.

I should add the place we went to I'd never been to before but I appreciate sitting in any restaurant isn't the best place to be so early in recovery. Lesson learnt.

I've had anxiety all day today. Feel like I've gone backwards.

I don't get it. After 4 days with no booze I would usually be feeling great by now. I suppose though I don't usually come off a 10 day binge.

Hopefully, in your first few meetings, you have collected a few phone numbers of other members. Now would be a good time to call.
