Day 1

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and had an awful binge drinking night last night where I ended up throwing things and acting like a complete crazy person. My mother is very sick and I have a lot of pent up anxiety but there is no excuse. I realize I can't control my behaviour when I drink sometimes and therefore since it is unpredictable how I will act I need to stop completely. Today is day 1. Thanks for listening.

Hi April.
This is my day 1 as well.
Some very wise people here on SR. We will do well to listen to their advice and try to move forward.

Welcome April!

I became a crazy person when I drank, too. It was incredibly frustrating and horribly sad. I'm glad you decided to stop drinking and be the person that you want to be.

Hello and welcome.
I became a different person while drunk, too. When drunk, we are over stimulated and disinhibited so bad things can happen. I know they did with me.

Best to you both on day one and remember, you never have to drink again.

Hi April

My day 1 was January 4th. Hangover from hell after 2 (and opened the 3rd) bottles of wine on the 3rd. Woke up that morning and said no more! That was 16 weeks ago. I feel great now and not looked back on that decision. I have logged in here everyday and checked into the 24 hour recovery thread. I read other posts and keep the sobriety thoughts very much at the forefront of my mind. Life ia so much better now and i hope you feel motivated to jump on the sober bus and grab back your life. All the best. Xx

Welcome to SR, April, and to Day 1.

I am so sorry to hear about your Mother. You will be happy that you chose sobriety - dealing with another's illness is so much easier in recovery.

Day 1'may be difficult but it is where the Magic is allowed to begin. Just wait for it to unfold. It is the best thing ever.

Stay close. We care.

I am terrible when I'm drunk. Not only am I am alcoholic, I also had a low tolerance to it. Not in the sense I couldn't drink alot. I could put away 3 bottles of wine in a day and still pass off as sober, but in the binge drinking when out with friends. I'd black out, act like a big adult baby. It's embarrassing. That's when I knew I had a problem. I'd just drink until I was a mess. Whereas most of my friends knew their limit. I never did.

Great to meet you, April. Alcohol turned me into a total stranger - she was obnoxious & confrontational. I'm so glad she's gone. You can do it!
