5 days sober. Hey everybody. I'm not sure how to start this so here it goes. I'm a 27 year old male who has been excessively drinking for years and suffering from bad depression. Recently I've decided I really need to make some changes in my life and am trying to avoid the bottle. I am 5 days sober at this point but struggling and not sure how to proceed. Any hints or tips for me would be greatly appreciated. |
twrn, My advice is go to AA meetings. I know its scary or whatever. But there are people there who want to help and will. When they ask if there are any newcomers please speak up. Tell them about your 5 days, I guarantee you someone will, probably several people will talk with you. I credit AA and my HP with getting me to 6 months-plus! I came here in march 2013 and didn't get it. Struggled for another 5 years..... I wish I had had the willingness to believe back then. As it is I had to go through what I went through to get me here. Today I am divorced and living at my moms...... and loving it! LOL I'm getting back on my feet and will have my own spot someday, I have a great job. Things keep getting better in AA, do you think I'd keep going back if it didn't get better!? Trust me try it don't wait until alcohol takes your family...... thank you |
Five days sober is a good start. :) Welcome to the family. :grouphug: Make sobriety your first priority and your life will get better. :) |
Five days is great. I couldn't make past four for twenty years. It was a nightmare. It's great that you realize you may have a problem with drink. I did too at your age, but would go onto drink for another many years. It was my life. My life revolved around drinking. It wasn't pretty at the end. I've been sober now for nine years and life couldn't be better. I did go to AA and it helped me immensely. I would recommend it as above. There are other programs and this place. So welcome and stick around, you'll find a lot of support here. Best to you. |
I will look into AA meetings around me. I just know I have some hard times coming up ahead. I work a very demanding job usually 6 days a week and 60+ hours. Also my parents have sold their house and are going to be moving halfway across the country in a month or two so I know I'm going to be struggling pretty bad soon. |

I will post a link to a fantastic SR thread (brought to you by our very own Dee) on that subject in just a moment. |
