Back Again...

I’m embarrassed to report that I’m back... I lasted a solid 8 months before falling off the wagon during the spring of 2014. It was fun times for awhile and everyone at the bars sure “missed me”. I’ve been binge drinking 5-7 nights a week for these last 4 years. Drink till I’m drunk, drive home drunk, and then drink some more until I pass out. Since relapsing, I gained all the weight back I had lost while sober, I feel like garbage all the time because my hangovers last days, I’ve associated with degenerates, and I’ve blown thousands of hard earned dollars gambling while drunk. I logged in a short time ago and read my original story from 2013. I sure wish I wouldn’t have slipped way back then... I sure feel like a loser right now. I’m 4 days sober today.

Well you’re not a loser but boy, do I remember that feeling.

You’ve lost 4 years of your life - but you don’t have to lose one more day.

It’s your CHOICE.

Today, choose sobriety with me and with so many others....

ACT to support that choice and to deepen your commitment to and understanding of a sober life.....

I promise you, it will get better and better until you just can’t even believe how great it is.

Along the way there will be challenges and struggles but nowhere near the challenges and struggles of a life in descending drunken haze.

I’m glad you’re here. Stick around.

Welcome back. You asked a question in your first post that is perhaps more relevant now than when you first asked it:

My answer? Get help. Get support. Get a plan together to get sober and stay sober.

Welcome back, Outdoorsman. Your eight months of sobriety wasn't a waste--you learned a lot and you can use that to formulate a plan that will work. I needed help to get and stay sober--a lot of it. I went to inpatient rehab, see a therapist weekly and volunteer with my church and a local museum as a way of helping others and getting away from my self-centeredness.
Wishing you all the best on your sober journey. Good on you for 4 days.

We all must be careful. Resting on our laurels and then soon forget that lizard in a tin life running round and round. Your back so grab a seat on the sober bus and belt in. ....and keep checking on in.

It's so good to have you back, outdoorsman. I'm sorry for the misery you're feeling right now, but we're here to help.

I did the same thing just before joining SR. I had 3 yrs. sober & decided I could have 'a glass' of wine. I tanked really badly. 7 years later I came crawling in here with my life in chaos. The non-judgmental encouragement meant everything to me. You will reclaim your life - never feel embarrassed with us. Congrats on your 4 days.

"I sure wish I wouldn’t have slipped way back then..."

You had your footing for eight months, though.

And you can find it again.

Thanks everyone! Starting to feel better, but I know it will take weeks before I start thinking clearer and get in a solid routine. I’d like to start working out, but I’m recovering from a broken toe. Yep, caught it on a doorway and broke it when I was in a stupor. How stupid, lol...

Welcome back Outdoorsman! Today is Day 5, so you're moving along. Don't beat yourself up. You have some significant past recovery to reflect upon. You can do it again. Hope your toe feels better soon. Foot pain is the pits!

Don't need a toe to bench press!

Welcome back man. I've been on these boards for just about as long - lost days and years included.

Here's to a better life for us.
