Brain fog
That damage takes some time to heal, everyone is different.
Yeah welcome to SR, Trundle! Awesome job on day 3!
Brain fog, yes it's common, and depends on each person too.
What helped me a bit was repeating things over and over in my head so they wouldn't get lost in the fog, or playing/working my brain with reading or apps that help with that.
Lots of good healthy repetition.
Calm your mind down, try some deep breathing and or meditation if you can. Lots of rest. Keep on keeping on

This just occurred to me regarding my brain fog during my first few days of sobriety. I was golfing on a Par 3 course, meaning (for non golfers), conceivably one only needs 3 shots to get to the green Anyway, after I reached the green, I couldn't remember how many strokes I took getting to the green, though it couldn't have been more than 4. I couldn't even remember where my ball landed on the first shot. It was horrible. Glad most of that is gone now.

I'm at 2 months and keep messing up words. Most of the time I've been squeezing in random words where I meant to say something completely different. Realize it right away and say the right word. Other times I just completely stop mid sentence not being able to think of the basic word I was going to use.
For me though these symptoms don't starting showing up until almost a month after I stop drinking. Last year when I had almost this much time in. It was a lot worse, I felt brain dead. At work I'd completely blank on doing basic tasks. This time around I've been eating better, exercising and taking some supplements that alcohol depletes like magnesium, zinc, b vitamins and choline. Seems to be helping.
