A Novel Idea
A Novel Idea
While finishing up my current fiction novel (A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, about a grumpy old man much like myself, very entertaining and highly recommended), I came across a line that jumped off the page and reminded me of all of us here, and myself in particular:
"[They] ...were from a generation in which one was what one did, not what one talked about."
I'm very good at talking! What I'm going to do...becomes what I should do...becomes what I wish I'd done.
I know it's not really a novel idea; I've read the same sentiment here a few times. Action, not words. Doing, instead of talking about it.
As a big talker, I'm no longer putting much stock in the crap that I say, determined only to count the things that I do. There's enough hot air in the world!
