Resurrection Sunday Easter is earlier this year than last year. Last year it was on the 16th my day 1. I didn’t feel like a new man, I felt like everyone on day 1, ashamed, defeated, and hungover. As a believer, I wanted to offer better to my Lord. So tomorrow I will offer nearly a year of sobriety, of gratefulness for progress in healing my body, my mind, my spirit which still have plenty of work to do. If you are a believer, know that the Spirit will hold you, encourage you through God’s holy word, and best of all you will feel the love of a committed creator. If you aren’t a believer, know that after nearly a year without alcohol, I have no regrets, and sobriety though it can be difficult, is worth it. Sorry if I sound a bit preachy, but it is Easter after all. May you all feel the love of a risen Savior! SF |
Thanks for sharing that SimplyFree :) I started recovery as an agnostic, and found my way back to the beliefs of my youth slowly. My redemption started on a Good Friday so even tho the actual calendar date of my recovery is yet to come this year, I always consider my spiritual rebirth date dates from then. Regardless of what you believe Easter/spring is a wonderfully symbolic time of year to celebrate Renewal :) D |
My first weeks of sobriety were in Lent 2014, so Easter has a new significance to me since then. I don't usually like newer versions of old hymns, but this is an exception... Amazing grace How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me I once was lost, but now I'm found Was blind, but now I see 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear And grace my fears relieved How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed My chains are gone I've been set free My God, my Savior has ransomed me And like a flood His mercy reigns Unending love, amazing grace The Lord has promised good to me His word my hope secures He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures BB - Happy, joyous and free this Easter, with the grace of God, |
thank you for sharing that..... it gives me hope and it is a reflective time of year. congrats on one year of sobriety, hope you have many more to follow :You_Rock_ |
Possibly a little known fact, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox (the time when the sun literally "rises" again) So happy Easter and happy belated spring equinox from a "pagan" perspective :) I was raised in a Christian background and my beliefs have shifted over time, but I still find spirituality to be important! |

Blessed Easter all. |
Hi, Happy Easter. This is passover for me but I do appreciate resurrection and redemption. Wishing all who celebrate a wonderful and sober Easter. |
"Raised from the dead." Yep, that about covers it. :) |
Congratulations to you! I recently started to attend alanon meetings after a twenty year hiatus. I went to an AA meeting with my husband in January and it felt warm and welcoming as if I had returned home. I've noticed that I've started to meditate a little differently and pray again. Thank you for your post:) |
Whether you are Christian or not, the message of rebirth/resurrection resonates with me as a recovering addict. Thank you for the post. |
It was a very blessed day. God’s love to each of you! |
Thanks for the lovely, positive message. I like Easter as a sign that the winter has ended and the majesty of nature is on her way back for another year. Best wishes for the rest of the year. May you continue to improve in mind, body and soul. |
