Day 4. Intense Drowsiness normal?
Hey gang,
On I'm Day 4 and doing great but my mental clarity is suffering tremendously...im so incredibly drowsy, I seriously keep catching myself nodding off at my desk. I slept wonderful last night, and probably actually got some Rem sleep but I'm getting more and more tired by the day and it's getting a little discouraging. I'm having trouble paying attention, listening and staying focused. I've heard brain fog is pretty normal but my questions are: A) why? Shouldn't our brain almost be hyperactive as we try to rebalance back to normalcy? B) why am I so stinking tired? Like can barely stay awake tired? I feel that isn't normal
Thank you for the input...and thank you all for your helpful posts this week!

Hi hawking
Yeah withdrawal and detox is a funny thing.
Sometimes I was incredibly drowsy and other times I couldn't sleep at all.
Both are well within the confines of normal I think - it gets better - but if you're worried maybe set up a visit to your Dr to set your mind at ease?

it's ONLY day 4.....ever had a bout of the flu or food poisoning? one doesn't just bounce back.....it takes time to recover from any illness. at four days your body is still not done detoxing the alcohol and it's leftovers out of your system. sobriety isn't an INSTANT fix for anything....well except getting drunk.
trust the process. stick with the process. take good care of yourself.

neec to replenish your body with natural forms of energy. Fruits, veggies, nuts. Keep snacks handy, drink lots of water or Gatorade, etc. takes time for the brain and body to get used to not having alcohol running thru it.

It was normal for me.
I found myself having frequent instances where i had to lie down RIGHT THEN and a couple of times even pulled the car over to take a nap.
My body was healing from a lot of mistreatment and damage.
I let myself sleep as much as it told me I needed, to the extent i could.
It took time, but the intensity passed. I am now, at 2 yrs and change sober, very active and still take a nap a lot of days. I get up really early (usually 4-430, else by 630) so most days I am tired around 3-4 and usually done for the day by 8-9.
Learning to listen to my body and its needs was crucial.
Keep going!

Check for dehydration. There are lots of
meds, nicotine, alcohol which can deplete
the body of fluids which can cause problems
to our eye sight, lack of energy, sluggishness,
etc.
Replace all those toxins with healthy
foods rich in vitamins and minerals
and a trip to your physician for a good
check up for extra safe help to get you
back on the road to being healthy.
