The Unexpected
The Unexpected
In response to Joshlyman's thread regarding the loss of his beloved dog, Dee posted, "The only advice I can give is...plan for the unexpected. "
Well, today I had a most unexpected event, which left me quite shaken and rather sad. While golfing today, my husband and I approached a water hazard where an alligator was being trapped and removed. Once the alligator was caught with a fishpole (200 lb test line), it was dragged ashore while it thrashed. The whole ordeal of the alligator being dragged, muzzled, turned on his back and dragged some more was just so sad to me. Some bystanders were cheering as it was put on a truck. The alligator was large and realistically I know that the alligator could pose a threat to the golfers, but I thought about how much I wanted a drink to block out the alligator episode. The alligator was being taken to an alligator farm.
I know this is dumb. Out of all the bad things that happen, I'm sad about an alligator.

I don't think that is dumb at all. I would have been infuriated. And incredibly sad. The golfers also pose threats to the alligators. This is an area I feel very passionate about and rather than go on a tirade that won't do any good I'll end here except to say I would feel awful about this too.
I am sorry you saw that and I am sorry for the alligator.

Aw Rar that's not dumb. It's hard watching distressed animals. I don't know what the deal is but the news has had a rash of horrid puppy stories. Ugh.
I'm glad they are taking it to a farm. Or is that like a gator meat farm? Ugh. Well either way, what are ya gonna do?
Definitely don't drink. That wouldn't honor the gator's suffering at all.

Rar, I have an extremely hard time seeing animals mistreated. I live in a very dog-oriented neighbourhood, and I have confronted people who I see mistreating their dogs. And, I will continue to do so as long as I have a voice.
I'm sorry for the alligator and sorry that you witnessed something so sad.

I don't know of another technique they could have used to catch him. It certainly looked horrible. I understand he was reported as a nuisance animal, which I find hard to believe. My experience with them on the golf course is that they sort of slither back into the water if you get near them. Some apparently felt it necessary to remove him.
